Well I'm happy you enjoy it. I personally prefer having a tablet that has a file-manager, MiniSD card, an open OS, being able to mount my device on any computer with a USB port as a normal drive and not having to deal with a music player that only supports two OS's to transfer files, codec support for all popular formats and not just the ones that your media store needs, paying less then 50% over the build cost just because it has a fruit symbol that glows, lighter, thinner, longer battery. I'll stick with my Samsung 7.7 WiFi addition with a 12 hour battery that dual boots into Android 4.04 and Ubuntu 11.10, is 7.7mm thick and I have full control over it.

Oh boy, Apple re-releases the same product (again) with slightly better screen quality, that is largely unnoticible to the average consumer in differeance to the iPad 2. Oh yeah and it has 4g! Which many people may use wifi anyway :insert golf clap: And if it by now didn't have 4g, would be a major flaw on Apple's behalf. Why do people want the new iPad again? Oh yeah cuz it's apple, and thier friend is buying one. I'll choose not to waste $600 for an oh-so-slight increase.

He just gave bias, weak and baseless judgements on the phenominal Galaxy Note while everybody including former iPhone users are in love with it.
to be honest... seeing the color uniformity issues in the images, the low quality contrast and saturated images, and the rather bad flare in bright environments makes me wish they put a better camera in it. How hard would plopping the iphone's rear facing 8mp camera be? seriously. Apart from the camera, all i'm getting is that its a better processor, screen, and a paltry upgrade in the camera department. I'll wait for their 7.85 inch mini table to see what's really up!

pity though, i really wanted the ipad 3rd gen. next time around it'll be better!

Get a ASUS Transformer Prime with a keyboard dock. You don't have to buy both at once if it's too much. Get the keyboard dock later and think of it as an upgrade. It's a great setup that gives you 18 hours of battery. I've found that being able to use the touch screen and keyboard at the same time is a great way to interact with the device. It's the beginning of a new input paradigm.

Garageband? LOL Everyone that I know who has an iDevice has never used it. That's a joke as a measure of superior software. On the other hand there are many games on Nvidia site that are Tegra 3 optimized. And you have not only the Android Market but Amazon as well. Amazon free app of the day is great. The Prime comes with Polaris Office, a number of good widgets to control data usage and power management. And you can easily connect peripherals like mice and game console controls both wired and wireless. How do you like them apples?

Laptops weigh more but they're made to be productive and not just to have fun with... Performance for example can easily be 10x or more a iPad's, which can't even handle 64bit or even run a desktop OS. So you couldn't even run OS X if you wanted to on a iPad because it's not powerful enough yet.

The A6 may bring it to that level but even then we're only talking entry level like around the performance of a netbook for CPU. GPU of course is a bit better but even that doesn't go anywhere near the range of what a gaming laptop are capable of, though they can rival some embedded GPUs and game consoles, though note those consoles are a few years old now and these tablets need quad core to even enter that range of performance.

All the higher performance of laptops will of course also use more power. So run times will be less with the same size battery but they have laptops that can use a battery slice and main battery for a total of up to around 23 hours continuous use and have the benefit of swapping batteries for extended use.

So let's not confuse the laptop and tablet markets. The iPad is good for basic usage, consuming content, and generally having fun. While laptops are for those either wanting to play PC games, up to games like Crysis, on the go or just want to work or even just to not rely on the cloud.

Mind also once Ivy Bridge comes out we'll also see lighter and thinner laptops that will make the weight difference less of a issue. While Haswell will bring SoC to Ultrabooks for even more compact and more energy efficient designs.

While many are considering the hybrid design of tablet that turns into a laptop as the compromise for future systems.

Michael,

I too have an iPod Touch (32gb) and still use it for 50% of my daily computer (internet, email, music) use. I also have a 3 year old MacBook Pro ($2000+ new) that I ONLY use maybe ONCE a week. I have a used desktop make that I use for everything else. I found a used iPad1 last year after the iPad2 came out for less than $200, and it changed my view that the iPad was just a BIG iPod Touch!

The way the iPad is advancing I don't think I would ever by a laptop again. They are too heavy, the battery only last 1/4 to 1/3 of an iPad, and anything I thought I needed to do on my desktop or laptop I can do on my iPad. My Ipad1 can almost load web pages as fast as my huge desktop and I can't believe I paid $2500 for it new when it came out in 2008.

I guess I would tell you to SAVE your money you were going to spend on a laptop and WAIT until the next iPad model comes out at Xmas or early next year. I'm beginning to believe the RUMORS that Apple will release a 7" iPad (or Super-iPod Touch!) AND the NEXT iPad (4?) with the same HD screen, but with a A6 (true Quad-Core!) processor.

This would make the new iPad(3) $100-$200 cheaper and bring the price of the iPad2 (still a very good tablet) down to $199.If you still can't do without a laptop, I would NOT get ANY laptop that doesn't have an SSD drive. Yes, 500+GB SATA drives are cheap, but they are a battery hog and not worth the extra weight.

PEACE!

I would love to have an iPad, but it just costs too much. I
can't justify buying one when I can get a great HD laptop for the same price
that has 500+GB storage and HD screen, plus the utility of getting exactly what
I want out of a laptop, instead of 3 versions of the same thing with different
storage options. I’m not completely shutting out Apple, I have a 32GB iPod
touch that I completely love but that boils down to the fact that it fits in my
pocket. Personally I can’t quantify spending $600 bucks on and iPad.

point taken. Android tablet manufacturers better hurry up then, eh? it is a tough for Android hole to climb out of when the promise of "sunrise" is only in the Asus. while I encourage and wish that Anroid and others would give Apple a run for its money, the truth is that Apple has the overall edge and its shows in the reviews and consumer satisfaction. Not to discount some users' desire for more productivity and flexibility in filing, sd card slots, Apple's core functionality in web surfing, apps, mobile gaming, and their harmony with its hardware is still ummatched. Motorola, Sony and Samsung are handicapped in the sense of having to rely on new differentiated features that they CAN control such as legacy Playstation One games or $10 worth of universal TV remote control features to add value to their devices. Admirable, but only smoke and mirrors to divert peoples's attention from the areas that count.
I uses all of the major tablets, such as the perk of my job, but in the end, boredom of the iOS UI aside, the feeling of confidence I have with iPad is not present when I use the Sony, Samsung 10.1, 7), HTC, Touchpad, Playbook, or Asus. the Samsung 7.7 has the smoothest, most "comfidence" inpiring performance next to iPad2, so I think it is a matter of a year before ICS and Honeycomb is mated with hardward that can fully support them

i agree that the 7.7 is worth a look at. i use the international 3g version and love the fact that it also has VOICE? swapping out my iPhone's sim car allows me to not sacrifice calls and not pay extra for a data plan.
that being said, it alsonhas the best Android experience on a tablet so far, not thqt it is any comfort knowing that Samsung's hardwqre has to overcome flaws in the OS. i still experience am few glitches here and there, but not nearly as apparent as on my other android taglets.
the overqll tablet experience crown still goes to Apple and I would not consider even attempting to teach my family to switch to Android tablets at this point in time, but the Galaxy 7.7" is the only choice if a smaller tablet is needed.
