New Ford Escape EPA rated for 33 mpg with 1.6L EcoBoost

Ford has announced the EPA handed down the fuel economy rating for the new Ford Escape with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine. The EcoBoost used in the Escape is a 1.6-liter twin turbo engine offering 2 miles per gallon more fuel efficiency than competing products such as the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4 on the highway. The new Escape offers five mpg better fuel economy than the outgoing version of the small SUV.

The EPA has rated the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine at 33 mpg. The SUV is available with other engine options as well. That 1.6-liter EcoBoost produces 178 HP and 184 pound-foot of torque making it one of the most powerful engines in its class. If that's not enough grunt for your needs, the new Escape also has a 2.0-liter EcoBoost rated at 30 mpg on the highway and 22 mpg in the city. It produces 240 HP and 270 pound-foot of torque and can tow 3500 pounds.

The third engine offered in the vehicle is a standard 2.5-liter rated at 31 mpg on the highway and 22 mpg in the city. The vehicle also uses improved aerodynamics to help improve fuel efficiency with the new Active Grille Shutter System. The system is between the grille opening and the radiator and is monitored by the engine control module to open and close for ideal operating temperature and aerodynamics.
