New Doom release date finally confirmed

Fans of game developer Id Software will soon finally be able to get their hands on the studio's newest masterpiece: the long-awaited reboot of historic FPS series Doom. Bethesda is publishing the title, coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and they've just released a new campaign trailer to mark the news of a confirmed release date. Viewers can get a serious helping of gore and violence in the video below, while they'll be able to get their hands on Doom starting May 13th.

This is set to be the first Doom release since 2004's Doom 3, which received mixed reviews from critics and players alike. The new game originally began life as Doom 4, but saw several years of troubled development, as well as a complete scrapping and starting over. As a reboot, Doom features fast and frantic gameplay, with plenty of over-the-top weapons and attacks to reduce enemies to pieces.

While the campaign stays true to the story of the classic titles, with demons from Hell arriving on a Mars research base, casting players as a space marine tasked with stopping them, Doom is also shipping with an in-depth multiplayer mode aimed at competing with the other modern shooters of today.

Also exciting is a map editor built right into the game. Dubbed Doom SnapMap, it gives players easy-to-use tools to create and edit levels to play on, as well share them online for others to try out. For FPS players who grew up with the original, genre-defining Doom games, May 13th can't come soon enough.
