I would definitely pay the higher price if they totally kill the infrared remote control, and have a faster & nicer user interface, will upgradeable OSs/updates and with integrated internet content such as news, weather, netflix, pandora radio, hulu, etc. And video phone calls. And access to your shared drives. To top it off with Siri voice integration, wow!

Totally agree, what would be their claim in the hardware space of TVs ? As apple they might have a way to smash prices from their vendors but with a cost twice as much as regular tvs it seems they won't pass it on to the end user. For everything else the current apple tv box pumped up would do really well. For it to make sense, they'd have to change the whole tv experience and i may be stupid but i seriously don't see what they can bring besides better integration. Consequently the threshold for an apple HDTV to make sense is simply too high in my opinion. But as always with apple, i ask nothing more than being happily surprised and proven wrong :-)

If someone can bring an significant change in TV ecosystem "post-cable" model combining a custom mix of broadcast and on-demand streaming Apple is definitely one. But I am still skeptical on the broadcast content partnership part since TV is largely driven by content with patronage of wealthy advertiser’s and is controlled by TV networks and studios... Apple has significant advantage to bring in (with premium cost) impeccable design, new technology, user interface, integration with other iOS devices and cloud but content will need partnership with TV networks and studios

incorrect, for a laptop the panel costs less than 30% of the machine, whereas a big television panel will cost over 80%.
Apple wont be able to have a huge markup on the price to stay competitive if the biggest piece of profit is taken by the panel manufacture.

Oh I completely agree and let's be honest, outside of MobileMe and the recent Final cut Pro crap (both software related), Apple just works! Outside of Peripherals, I've owned at least one of every piece of apple hardware made in the last 3 years. I dropped PC/Microsoft like it was a joke (still is).
I'd welcome any new piece of hardware Apple released as long as ios or OS x was on it. In fact, Apple Appliances are likely not too far out with Siri integration throughout!
Oh and the Starship Enterprise? That's are future long after we're gone and it's all apple branded!!!

Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't see Apple coming out with a TV per se. Why should they? Instead Apple could easily upgrade and soup-up the Apple TV to interface with any TV set ... esp. existing smart TVs .... and interrelate with Macs, iPhone, iPad, iPod, iCloud, etc. and have the TV and Apple TV act as one unit. Why should Apple make the TV itself .... esp. at twice the price of other TVs?

I don't see what kind of atvantage an Apple TV would offer for twice the price. You can already stream stuff from a laptop to a TV via wi-fi. I don't think i want to play angry birds on a screen the size of a TV when i can do it better on my tablet and besides that a PS3 or Xbox is better for gaming. Now if it comes with the first oled screen on a TV then i could justify the cost but what other reason would anyone want to drop that kind of cash on this TV? and what exactly is it suposed to be able to do that would make it worthwhile?

Not to be an apple fanboy (I have an android phone) but to be honest I am looking forward to having all my devices just WORK....all this device fragmentation in the market makes it hard for apps to work together (I know I work at an IT company that makes cross platform apps for android) and I have had nothing but problems with my Android phone (SONY ERICSSON p.o.s. ARC).

I used to be all about customization, but now I just don't want to spend 5 hours to get my phone to a USEABLE level after customizing, and rooting, and voiding my warranty and all so that it can have some stupid error again and I have to start all over. I am an advanced user, it is not due to any mistake I made that it breaks (had to have the main-board replaced once already because 3G stopped working and the new one's audio plug doesn't work well now). Jesus, just give me hardware that looks great, feels sturdy, has PLENTY of accessories for, and syncs perfectly without issue. Apple TV....how could it possibly be bad?? I love my iMac and will never regret spending the ridiculous price they ask (and in S. Korea where I live it is another $500 extra!) Go ahead...troll away
