I actually have it working with the beta 2.1.5 firmware however I have to admit I was quite disappointed that they sold this device without testing the darn thing. Beta firmware still needs some work but its getting there…

Yeah this tech only works with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. And something called Widi as well.

That’s because it has not been officially integrated into your android phone yet. Your only going to see these capabilities in the new upcoming firmware release.

Actually, after playing with new youtube update on gtv and youtube update on jelly bean 4.2 you may change your mind. It is amazing to sit and use your phone to push videos to your tv, watch them, and find other content on your phone all at the same time. It is amazing and just mirroring you device will not provide the ability to do that. The future of gtv is looking good.

Both the GS III and the LG Optimus G have this standard built in…. (Miracast /Wifi Direct/WiDi have been handsets and laptops for a little while). I Just wish Roku supported this
:- ( I agree with you though this does kill Apple and Google TV. Also services like Playon as well. I just wonder the tole it will take on the phone when you try to watch 2-3 hr movie. This device sips juice but I don’t think the antenna in my LG Optimus G will fair the same way.

I bought for $60 Dell Canada. Easy Hookup and works the same as HDMI Cable PC to TV..ie quality. I have an HP..WIDI laptop.

Finally! — I am tired of waiting! This in my view represents the beginning of a true shift into a 2nd screen world. I just hope we will soon have a device which also supports the airplay mirroring standard or apple adapts their products to support it natively. The other thing we really need to see here is a universal standard which tv/display manufactures impliment which allows us to automatically switch inputs when an authorized device makes a request… I believe its probably going to take 2 more years untill we have all these capabilities embeded which in turn will finally force traditional media broadcasters to dramatically revise their restrictive content access policies!

I was in the market for a new streaming media player, but I think I’ll just wait until Miracast comes to Android (which should be soon). I think this effectively kills Google TV though. Kind of pointless after this.
