The name is terrible. But not as terrible as this article. Reed Hastings didn’t try to make it seem Qwikster is going to be the biggest thing in rentals; he made it pretty obvious he doesn’t give a shit about DVD rentals at all. Qwikster is an irrelevance: Hastings is focusing on where he wants to be, where, as you correctly point out, he has a fight on his hands and lots of work to do. This is transparently the right strategy.

How about Fuckster? Or perhaps Up the Asster? Or how about UrScrewdster? Or Netflixter’s Qwikster Really Suckster.

And it’s really not what they are doing as we all can understand cost structures and the need to reevaluate and change every so often. It is the way they handled the changes and this ass Hastings tried to blow job this all away. That’s the Qwikster we didn’t appreciate.

I can understand that Netflix wants to charge a separate fee for mail delivery of DVDs..it’s got to cost quite a bit to process and mail so many physical units every day, let alone the disks that get damaged and have to be replaced, but if people still want to rent disks, it seems like a reasonable price. I like the idea of video game rentals too.

Qwikster? Can you imagine the meeting full of brown-nosers that agreed “Qwikster” would be a good name? Sounds like a cartoon…or a cereal…or something you mix with milk.

Why not name it something like Netflix plus, or Netflix premium…something generic that retains the name recognition they’ve worked so hard for.
