Two of the major reasons I can think of:
A more consistent humidity level is directly tied to temperature, which affects air quality and the finishes on the building itself.
There is a net savings in energy when a home is kept moderately warm and heated when the ocupant are home, rather than having to heat the entire space from cold each day.

No thermostat can save you money. The best way to save money is called an off switch. Off when you’re not home. On when you’re home. That’s it, there’s no reason to have the heat or a/c when you’re not home.
