The biggest problem to over come would be to have a crazy amount of storage at a reasonable price and also crazy high speed connections. Waiting 30min for a single song to download is crazy…but then I remember back in the day before DSL and waiting 30-45min for a single mp3 to download with my 56k modem LOL!

There’s also Bandcamp and other notable outfits, many of which pay the artist(s) better to than iTunes.

Its called beatport, you have the option to upgrade from mp3 to aiff, wav, and I believe a few other lossless formats, and they’ve been doing it for 8 years.

Neil Young has always been a bit cranky about digital music, but cranky in a good way. If his advocacy of high quality sound produces a viable alternative to mp3′s then music fans should support it.
