NEC LaVie Light Lui Mobile with VNC and WiMAX

NEC have announced a new netbook, the LaVie Light Lui Mobile, an Atom N280 machine with the usual 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 display.  There's nothing much to differentiate this from the sea of other Atom netbooks, frankly; the best you'll get is NEC's own Lui Remote Desktop system, basically a branded VNC client.

Storage is 160GB while RAM is 1GB, and there's both WiFi b/g and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR.  A 1.3-megapixel webcam is integrated, as is a microphone, and battery life is estimated at up to 8.5hrs; the whole thing weighs around 1.32kg.

NEC also seem to be offering a WiMAX upgrade option for their Lui range of ultraportables, positioning them as a way to access a more powerful home PC when mobile.  That would mean you could shoot HD video, send it to your home PC and then use Lui Remote to set up processing on the faster desktop machine.  It's unclear how much this WiMAX upgrade – or indeed the LaVie Light Lui Mobile netbook itself – will cost, nor whether the two are compatible.
