NASA taps Soundcloud to aggregate sounds of space

"In space, nobody can hear you scream." That tagline is growing less relevant by the day. We've heard sounds that were recorded deep in the ocean, and thanks to NASA's various efforts, we've heard sounds from outer space. Keeping track of these audio files isn't terribly simple, however, and so the next time you feel like firing up the sound of radio waves inside Earth's atmosphere at your next party, NASA wants to make sure you can do it hassle-free.

Soundcloud. You're likely familiar with it at this point, but even if you aren't, it doesn't take long to grasp. The service allows anyone to host audio files, whether short clips or longer. These files can be aggregated into specific albums, played, saved, and shared.

NASA has created its own Soundcloud account, and on it users can already find dozens of audio files covering all sorts of space-y things: Space Shuttle missions, radio waves, solar system sounds, rocket tests and launches, the noises of Mercury, JFK's speeches about Apollo 11, and more.

The audio comes from NASA's sound archives, and is available in MP3 format for anyone to download, since they're public domain clips. The files have been up for about a week and are growing, so there's been time to start picking out favorites. Are you fond of any particular clip? Share it in the comments!
