>Sqex> I'm more than familiar with the workings of cameras - how an aperture value to exposure time can wash out background colours and so forth. Though I think your explaination of it and relation to the said image is confused to say the least.

Having done some further research I've found this video which throws a bit more light (no pun intended) on the subject.

Have you ever wondered where the stars went...?

>Bradley> I too have seen this image before.

It is not a new image and yes, it has been tampered with.

If this is a newly-released image of the earth, why is it the same image that came as the standard background on my original iPhone a few years back. Check it out. The cloud formations are EXACTLY the same. So, why is this news, and why is it showing up in all of my blogs????

yes you are the only person wondering this, if you had any understanding of how cameras work you would not.

You can not see the stars because the light being reflected from the earth is much greater than that of the surround star light, and the star light is thus washed out and easy way to see this, stand under a street light and see what stars you can see above you. then block out the street light with ur hand you will see many many more. a camera works the same as your eye.

Am I the only person wondering why, if this is a genuine photo, we cannot see any stars in the black areas?

Unless they're removed - in which case it makes you start to believe that maybe NASA remove more than stars from their pictures, as claimed by many people.
