For all ye fishermen out there prone to over-priced shiny lures. Coming out in October is the shiniest of them all created by the major vacuum equipment manufacturer, Ulvac. The “Strom” lure as they call it is produced using advanced nanotechnology featuring a nanocoating that makes it reflective and shiny from any angle you view it. Yes, fish like em shiny things, but I think these suckers attract more humans than fish as with most lure products on the market. However, Ulvac claims these lures, under much testing, prove to attract four times more fish. Anyhow, if you got the money, these suckers go for $25 a piece and come in two sizes, 2.4g and 3.7g.

I’d hate to lose one of these suckers to a stubborn underwater log, or heaven forbid, a rabid carp!

My name is David Campbell. i am a teacher and coach for Sand Springs Public Schools in Sand Spring,s Oklahoma. Our school is located about fifteen miles from Lake Keystone in Northeastern Oklahoma.

Three years ago I started a Lifetime Sports Fishing Unit. I am still teaching the unit each Spring. I have 15 students in my class, ranging from 12 to 14 years old. These are “at risk” kids in an alternative school setting. If we can reach just one kid and convince him or her that fishing is a lot beteer way of life thatn runing the streets, it will have been worth our efforts.

We begin with fishing safety, and ettiquette, Then, we take the equipment outside the classroom onto the football field. There, we learn different techniques for casting, reeling, and hook setting. We then practice target casting, and lure placement. Once we are comfortable with the equipment (usually a couple of weeks), we load a bus, and I take the kids fishing at nearby Keystone Lake. We spend the day fishing, cooking hot dogs, and generally enjoying the sport of fishing.

    Lifetime Sports

    Fishing Unit

This unit is designed to introduce students to fishing as a lifetime sport.

Students will receive classroom instruction on fishing safety, etiquette, and fishing laws.
Students will receive instruction on equipment use, including knot tying, stringing a reel, casting techniques, and care of equipment.
Students will receive instruction on general guidelines for locating fish, and proper bait selection.
I am emailing to ask for your support of this program by donating some general equipment such as rod and reel combos, jigs, and lures for crappie and bass fishing.

Thank you for making a difference in the lives’ of kids.

    Sincerely,

    David Campbell
