All the way back in August 2008, we heard of plans to remake Myst for the iPhone and iPod touch.  The classic adventure game is now finally available to download [iTunes link], but just as the original was a spec-intensive title for the PC, the iPhone version demands a lot too: a 727MB download and 1.5GB free during installation.

Admittedly around half of that amount is let loose again after installation is complete, but you’re still looking at a roughly 750MB title on a platform more used to games fitting into a few megabytes.  The culprit is the lush graphics: they’re said to be better than the original Myst, despite the mobile platform, and paired with all of the original movies and animations.

Add to that full music and sound effects, and the fact that it has all the original Myst Ages and gameplay, and you’re getting a lot for your $5.99.  Myst for iPhone supports auto-save (useful if a call comes in), swipe-to-turn, a bookmark system for saving progress and auto-zoom for close-ups.  There’s also a hint guide which can be quickly called up during gaming.
