How about trying find something interesting to do with the Kinect. Use your own imagination. You don ‘t have to be a programmer to find new uses and interesting ways to utilise your technology. I f it’s going to collect dust, give to someone with a brain who might actually find a use for it, then walk down to the local hospital and enquire about frontal lobe

Yeah the Kinnect is pretty cool, it’s kinda lacking on games right now, after all the units they sold they better get to work on some good games quick. Dance Central is really fun, but there’s far to few of games right now.
With the Kinnect you need more space than a Wii, a Wii is a little more stable because of its sensored controllers. Wii has many more games at the moment yeah, but Xbox’s system blows a away a Wii. The Kinnect runs off the xbox’s system, not on its own. My living room’s kinda cramped and it’s hard to get a good game going if you don’t have lots a space, when it’s cramped the sensors on the Kinnect don’t see well, if you’re black, just fugetahboutit. It’s got a nice webcam with chat which moves up and down to scan you, they’ve got some cool chat features coming up where you can chat as your avatar, even as a party. When I move soon I’ll have a big enough room to enjoy the Kinnect in, I can get my fat ass off the couch and do something productive, Dance Central get you dancing like no other.

Another thing about the Wii and Move is people are dancing about all over the place but all it is seeing is your hand movement which is pretty pathetic really, I mean what is the point in a dance game that only registers what your hand is doing you can just sit on the couch and move your hand around and it won’t even know, that is just a rip off.

Wherea Kinect Dance central sees your whole body and that is the big difference Kinect programmers don’t need to cheat into making you think it can see you as it can see you.

The spring update should be intresting as it is going to allow Kinect to see full face features….

Indy is a PS3 fanboy in disguise (That is why ha says he has all 3 systems), the Wii DID NOT have any of those games you have listed untill a long time after it’s release.

I only have a PS3 but I know one thing that Move is a pile of junk that I wasted my money on and the games are just terrible and all it’s future titles are mainly just the same old games with Move being added to them.

So what has Kinect got coming out for it this year ? All new ip titles -

Also Star wars and Forza 4 is also going to have Kinect and that is only so far MS don’t release all their game titles for this year until the show.

I would say the Xbox and Kinect is looking to be the better system for Core gamers this year.

Why should I buy this now? I did in fact, and returned it. I’ll buy another one in 6 months to a year when it actually works and has games that work with it, worth the purchase…and will probably be cheaper then too.

$150 back in my pocket from the refund are about 3 AAA games that work and are fun now. Waiting 6 months to a year from Kinect to actually be worth it, sure sounds like 6 months to year of dust on it to me.

I’ll let all that dust accumulate on a store shelf, while I spend my $150 on something that’s fun today.

I played Dance Central and one or two other ‘test’ titles on Kinect last night and it was amazing. Once publishers start taking advantage of the format it could produce some amazing titles. For me it’s much more revolutionary than the Wii. I find that the Wii isn’t accurate enough but Kinect was amazing with Dance Central.

I can’t wait for a good boxing game or some first person shooters where you’re holding a gun. FPS would rock on Kinect.

I have (really had) the Wii for about a year and recently bought the Kinect for the kids. I can tell you, within the first week, we knew we wouldn’t touch the Wii anymore. As a matter of fact, I gave it to my sister, since my wife loves!!! this new console. I am a very casual gamer to say the least, but the Kinect really got me acting silly in front of the TV after a very long time. I think people will really open up to this, since it won’t be limited as the other consoler are. I see a big future for it outside the gaming world

Sorry if I hurt your feelings. That’s my opinion that’s all. Yes it is new and I like the tech potential but it’s novelty has worn out on me and I don’t see any good games coming out for it. Maybe kinect 2 will read the body better, like the twist of a wrist. Sorry if you disagree but that’s life. I work at MS but doesn’t mean I have to like everything they do like some of the sheeps that post in these threads.

I agree that the games are utterly painfully pathetic at this point… But the technology is here! Now. Give it 6 months to a year TOPS and there will be a healthy choice of game selection. I know several good programmers getting recruited almost daily for this very reason. Until then… Watch Zune ;)~

I agree. I’m more excited to see titles like Alan Wake operate with Kinect. I mean, Kinect is great, but I don’t want to work out every time I relax and play a game. After all, years of gaming hasn’t exactly put my body in peak physical condition and the idea of sitting on the couch is more appealing. A resident evil that requires you to actually bend down to pick up ammo, or move to aim- that would be cool. Having to break a sweat after 30 minutes of play, that’s kinda sucky.

First, with kinect i´d saw my wife passing from “i hate games” to “Funnnn let´s play more”.
Second Core gamers will never and i emphasize never , have the same effect using kinect as an old game pad .

Wow, you are one dumb tester. You should know that Kinect is a new brand and only handful of games are available as for now. Why are you comparing the games with Wii which is well established brand. Wait for some time, this year some pretty cool games are lined up for Kinect.

If you exclude Kinect than Xbox has some of the best games like Halo. Despite that you got bored of Xbox then there you are not traditional gamer. I think you are a liar not tester, definitely not tester because I know several testers and your comments surprised me. Maybe you are MS hater or something.

I can’t use a traditional controller so the Kinect is the only reason that I will ever buy a game console. It’s been all PC Games for me. If I could get a Mouse and Keyboard on a game console then I could do it. I just can’t figure out the controls and when I have (somewhat) it is very hard to aim accurately and fast for me. So that makes me a Kinect fan. Yes I hope more ‘hard core’ titles come out done well for the Kinect.

I saw this coming with both kinect and the move. The only game with any sort of replay value on both libraries is Dance Central. The only thing that has me interested in motion controllers is killzone 3. I have the money save up, and just waiting to see if the move is well integrated into killzone 3. If not, then it will be a while before I buy a motion device.

I agree, but my xbox is not gathering dust. I personally never thought I’d be used my kinect daily like my standard control, it’s provided the group fun and occastional casual gaming I wanted. Also with these future updates to Netflix and Hulu, I imagine I may find myself using it more and more, just for the voice commands alone.

I agree. This whole moving about is a drag- especially after a good day’s hard work. Like I want to come home and start moving even more after being tired of being in office or outside and just wish to play a solid title like Pacman and relax eating pellets. Maybe am getting old but when your a grownup living in an adult world and working hard, you just w ant to relax. Only kids give a dam about jumping like ants, basically since their hyped up on soda and sugar. Give me my Atari and am happy :)

Most of the Kinect titles have online play which gives them a lot more longevity than their Wii counterparts.

I’ve had Kinect since launch and I’m playing it every day. I’m doing EA Sports Active 2 four times a week and I love it. Originally I had Your Shape Fitness Evloved but I was pretty underwhelmed by that one. I also love using the Kinect to watch movie trailers on Zune and I can’t wait for Netflix. It is so cool using my hand to swipe back and forth through movies and incredible how fast the Xbox loads up the 1080p trailers. Being able to chat with my friends on Xbox Live without having to use the headset is very nice. The microphone is much more sensitive than I expected. The family loves playing Kinect Sports and Joy Ride. I’m having a blast with Dance Central too. I can see getting bored with Kinect Adventures quickly, but that’s about it.

Don, based on your article…it doesn’t sound like you are a gamer, so i can’t really be surprised that it is already collecting dust. Don’t you think it is a little early to be writing about this when there aren’t many games available for it yet though, a little early in my opinion?

@ Indy Not really fair to compare the Wii with its umpteen games vs. the newly outed Kinect, is it? I haven’t turned on my Wii in months, i have all three as well, the Wii is for the kids, real gaming done on the others!

For the me, the Wii is 1000 times more fun then kinect. I mean the Wii has Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong Country and many other solid titles. I own all 3 systems plus move and kinect.

I was a tester for kinect so I’ve had it for well over 6 months and like you mention in your article, once the novelty wears off, it’s not that much fun. Most of my play time is with the PS3, Wii, then 360.
