I have NEVER listened to Howard Stern (I hate shock talk radio), but I’ve had Sirius for almost ten years now. Love it. Alternative radio, indie music, a little 80′s flashback, occasional blues, etc. Great stuff.

I also have Rhapsody for 5+ years and listen to any CD I want while I’m at work and I use TuneCab to remove DRM and put it on my phone. Even though Rhapsody doesn’t have EVERY CD that I want, it has almost everything and is more than worth the $10/mo I pay to have music on demand.
And yes, Pandora is a joke if you listen to it for more than one hour a week. So much repetition and I can’t stand it.

I liked the Zune service, but I found that when I was looking for a specific song or album, that was usually the one that was not available as part of the streaming service. The mix of a la carte buying and free downloads irked me.

I think I make it clear that besides Howard Stern I find Sirius to be worthwhile for the musical selection. You stopped reading just a paragraph too early :-)

I never liked Howard because he was a shock-jock. I agree the show is not as great as it was in its heyday with Artie Lange. But I don’t find Jay Thomas to be very genuine, and that’s what I like best about Stern.

Howard
Stern is hardly a reason to invest in SiriusXM, now that he’s only broadcasting
3 days a week, 3 weeks a month. In fact,
Howard is no longer a shock-jock and is now completely PG-rated, but you might
like Jay Thomas, another in the talk/humor vein, who at least broadcasts a live
show 5 days a week, including Friday mornings on channel 101, otherwise on channel
105 at 3 pm and repeated at 8pm.

Sirius is on a lot in my car, but it’s not the only thing I listen to. I like Howard, can’t believe his ego/persona but do believe it’s all a show. He is a laugh and I often change the channel because there are MANY great programs on other channels. One of the very best is Pat St. John during the evening hours on “B.B. King’s Bluesville.” I have never heard anything repetitive. Now that’s good radio!

interesting… i had Sirius years ago and cancelled because i got everything i needed from Rhapsody /Pandora… perhaps worth a second listen. Although i’m not a big stern fan…You make a good argument for it.

Shoutcast has all that and much more for free. But you need a decent Internet connection(3G,etc) so it’s not going to be as good as Sirius for the car.

I did exact opposite from you. I had XM radio in my car and used it for two years and got tired of the repetitive music on each channel. So i disconnected the XM wires and configured an AUX port, so I can play Pandora’s huge music library. If you’re into Howard and Sports, then Sirius is the way to go.
