I can relate, my grandfather is you typical fix just about anything kind of guy, and I always look to him for advice. But when it came to buying a computer(to replace his K5 gateway) he turned to my cousin, who just works at best buy(about 1500 miles away no doubt), and doesn't really know much about computers.

I live next door to him, and I've always thought, because of the complications I had with rigging him onto my WiFi, caused him to think I was too complex, and not the right person to ask for advice.

Also, my mother, who actually got me into PC's 15 years ago, has always asked for my advice, I've also set up her two PC's(dellbuntu) to be completely repairable from my house 50 miles away. She is a slightly savvy user, in comparison to my grandfather, she loves linux, albeit a few incompatibilities. But she knows, all she has to do is call her free tech support.

It always boggled my mind on the generation or two behind me, and their inconsistent advice seeking. But alas they are still great to seek for advice. I feel your painful(or puzzled)feelings.
