Mozilla Flame smartphone now shipping to developers

The Mozilla Flame phone for developers, having been available for pre-order for a few months, is now shipping. Mozilla calls this latest handset "a milestone in Firefox OS device releases", saying its specs pave the way for developers to get busy creating without the hassle of device-centric issues.

The Flame is an unlocked smartphone priced at $170 USD, made available via everbuying.com, bringing with it a GSM+UMTS radio. Developers only need to pop in their own SIM card to get it up and running. The phone is also being hawked through Mozilla's Flames for Apps option.

As far as specs go, the smartphone falls in the mid-range category, offering Firefox OS 1.3, as well as a 1.2GHz dual-core MSM8210 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal memory (complemented by support for microSD cards up to 32GB).

The display is a modest 4.5-inches with a resolution of 854 x 480. There are two cameras: a front-facing 2-megapixel shooter, and a rear 5-megapixel camera joined by flash and auto-focus. Sensors are typical, with A-GPS, proximity, accelerometer, FM radio, and light. Rounding the phone out is connectivity, which includes 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, and GPS.
