Finally! Someone other than me and my family that’s loves this movie. The aliens were so original and well made. It would have been just another ‘eh, it was entertaining’ B-grade sci-fi flick if it wasn’t for the last ten minutes. They were done so beautifully it made the whole film great, and not just because it had a realistic look at what would happen if aliens invaded.

I saw the movie and I actually loved it. I am really sick of people bashing movies for their special effects and being unrealistic. I, for one, love going to the movies for the escape. I do not want realistic movies, I love the fantasy. I do have to say that there were some things I agree with in this review, like the actors were not great, and, it ended to soon. However,I, also, kind of like how it ended because it kind of gave you hope with what happened to the main characters. The one thing I hated, though, was that my favorite character, Donald Faizon, died. Overall, it was a great movie to me.

was an amazing movie for me…i loved it so much. i loved cloverfield to though. im wierd that way. I am sooo anxious to know whether they’ll make a sequel. i was soooo pissed when they got rid of the hot-ass actor :”( He was awesome. I wanna know what happens to the pregnant girl. I wanna see more of the aliens plans…PLEASE MAKE ANOTHER MOVIEMAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really enjoyed this movie. It was good science fiction that had a somewhat original twist on a familiar plot. I also thought the acting wasn’t bad. This movie is unconventional which is what I like. I love a movie where the aliens just kick ass… the end, but with a note of hope.

I don’t care if the film sucks or not. I’m too busy trying to digest your post. If I’m interpreting it correctly, you expected Skyline to surpass:

1 – An alien flick that made a billion bucks.

2 – An absolute science fiction staple.

3 – Arguably the greatest science fiction film of all time.

I dragged my wife and daughter to watch this Science Fiction movie, they fell asleep half way the show and woke up near the end and asked me “Is that It?” Boy, this movie embarrassed me, graphics cinematography was awesome, even the sound. But the plot SUCKS, i want my money back! I though it will surpass the other former Scifi movies like the AVATAR or the old War of the World or maybe even the Blade Runner, Its Not! Only the cinematography is good, also the story sucks!

I agree the movie ends too soon and there could have been much more to it, and here comes the but. But I was happy that I could just switch off and enjoy the shiny lights lol. Really I went in without any expectation of a good or bad movie but I figured the the directors previous works it had potential. I liked that they didn’t make it out of the building, because as soon as it was suggested I was 2 steps ahead thing of how they would make it out of the city. This was a bit better than the usual we run and something big and bad chases us. True there is far too much resemblance to any other alien movie but yet again that is also part of story telling. How many movies, at their base story, remind you of something else or some other story you’ve heard or read. In my opinion it could have been moved farther away from any other story but theyhavent and so we have to either hat it for that or joy the nastaga from age old favourites. To end I liked it well enough but won’t pay to see it again might listen to thefts comentary just to hear howstoned they were when they thought this movie would be a great idea

You hit it right on the dot. Your review is exactly how I feel. In fact, I feel very cheated on this unfinished movie! The producers got greedy on this movie and decided to cut the ending on this movie to be the sequel. The first half hour of the movie should have been on the cutting floor, the character introduction was redundant and boring. Should have started the movie from the party scene. None of the characters were likeable…this is not even close to District 9. I am definitely not wasting my money on the sequel.

You might be right in your criticism. I certainly rejected all of the assumptions you claim I missed. There are ways to show the scope of the problem without directly flashing every L.A. resident on screen. Cloverfield certainly offered a great view of how the attacking monster was affecting masses of New Yorkers. But either Skyline is implying that these characters are some of the few remaining in L.A., or you’re right that the directors were simply too cheap to make this point clear.

The reviewer has a few good points. However, his limited imagination fuels some of his criticisms. He says that “Los Angeles is emptied of its population in the first fifteen minutes or so of the film”. Just because the film’s characters cannot see anyone from their limited vantage point, doesn’t mean there aren’t thousands of people hiding in their homes just like the protagonists are. If you assume that there are thousands of people hiding, then the reviewer’s other points don’t make sense. The aliens aren’t expending resources just looking for the films characters, that just the alien interaction we can observe. It’s not obvious that the aliens have super-sensitive scanning tech, in fact it appears as if they depend an awful lot on their light-mesmo tech and brute force. By assuming that what is happening to the film’s characters is the only thing like that happening at all in the entire city, the reviewer misses the entire appeal of the film. This film is meant to be a microcosm of the events in L.A. The audience only sees (in detail) the experiences of this one small group, but this same scenario, more or less, could be playing out with varying degrees of success or failure all over the city and all over the world. The focus on this small group makes the film cheaper to make. Afterall, if we don’t need to know what the President is doing, thinking or experiencing, we don’t need a White House or Air Force One set. Ditto for the personal lives of the fighter pilots, cable TV IT Manager and his family, or random alcoholic crop duster vagabonds. And by confining our group to essentially one location, the area in and around one condo building, we don’t have to show other areas of the city.

I totally agree this movie sucked worse than trying to steal gas from your mothers car. I wouldn’t go see a sequel. Special effects were good, but that’s about all. Save your money!

Good review for the most part. I caught it last night and agree it sucked, though i feel thFX were sub par, and yes you have seen at least some of these aliens before. in the Matrix, hell the insode of the ship at the end looks alot like a cros between the ships in aliens and the inside of the city hub in the matrix. wires and darkness with people every where. the concept that the aliens don’t ever seem to die or are unstoppable ruined it, even with the ending,( which i figured would happen more often, if you base your theories off of science, ) you can’t seem to find any hope for mans survival. IF this movie makes it to a sequal it should definitly go directly to DVD.
