Motorola XPRT Officially Announced in NYC

What you're about to see is not an illusion. While it may look to you like the device you're seeing is the DROID Pro, you'd be mistaken. This instead is the Motorola XPRT, a device that's essentially the exact same device with a few tiny differences in the hardware. Where the device carried previously by Verizon had a 1420 mAh and an OK but not perfect amount of uptime, this new version contains a much more generous 1860mAh battery for a larger amount of time between charges. Then the keyboard is a tiny bit different from the device you've seen in the past, and the corners have a slightly different roundness to them.

As for the specs on the device, they're essentially the same as you remember from when we did a full review of the DROID Pro back in November of 2010. That is, a 1GHz OMAP processor, 3.1-inch HVGA (320x480) TFT LCD touchscreen, full QUERTY keyboard, and 2GB ROM, 512MB RAM, with a microSD card slot stocked with a 2GB card and the ability to hold a 32GB card. This device runs Android 2.2 Froyo and runs the Android Market out of the box as all good USA phones should.

Therefor, if you have a look at the device, you'll notice that it takes on the form of another familiar device, that being the BlackBerry X – I say X because it resembles many different BlackBerry devices simply because RIM made the display above the keyboard form factor famous. Check the full review of the Droid PRO version of this device for a very good comparison and rundown of such a comparison.

This device, for those of you unfamiliar with its older brother, has Worldmode capability – CDMA (EVDO Rev. A), GSM/UMTS (HSPA) – aka international roaming (your humble narrator used one for Mobile World Congress 2011 in Barcelona – very slick! This device has 3G mobile hotspot capability for 5 wifi enabled devices at once, Quickoffice out of the box, Device encryption, multi-headed VPN, and EAS security policy support – aka it's made for super secret spy business. Wifi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, GPS, weighs in at 5.1 ounces (145 grams), sized at 2.4 inches x 4.74 inches x 0.51 inches (60.9mm x 120.4mm x 12.95mm), and is really rather nice looking.
