Motorola to open 'experiential boutique' shop in Chicago

On Wednesday, Motorola announced plans to launch a retail store in Chicago, which will open in time for the holiday season. The store will be called, most appropriately, the Moto Shop, marking the maker's first ever "experiential boutique" in downtown Chicago. The store will open on November 7, and will showcase Motorola's own products: phones, tablets, and wearables, among other things.

The idea is that nothing beats getting a look at a device in person, something the Internet can't provide. You'll need a store with the gadgets in order to see them in person, though, and who better to open that store than the manufacturer itself? Enter Motorola's "Moto Shop," which will include interactive elements and things like a testing block.

Motorola has teased some images of what the retail shop looks like; says the company, it has translated the Moto Maker into a real-life mini workshop of sorts where visitors can "get hands-on" with wood, leathers, and more, building a customized Moto X Pure Edition. There's also personalized Moto 360 shopping.

Those more interested in the durability of things will have a chance to test the Moto ShatterShield on a small square of ground with different flooring materials: tile, concrete, wood, and ceramic. The Droid Turbo 2 won't shatter, the company promises, and there's nothing like seeing that averted destruction in person.

The store's located at 108 N. State Street (Suite 140 at Block 37) .
