This will kill choice and reduce innovation.
They'll not produce much variety for the power users but instead more middle-of-the-road mediocre devices. They'll take fewer risks. They'll only bump the specs in the same few areas. everything will seem more vanilla. there will be less incentive to improve processing power or battery.

They'll actually further push the trend to eliminate keyboards.

Who would even consider a pressure sensitive stylus? Who would implement flexible screens? who would implement 3d? who would implement dual screens? who would implement an IR transceiver? who would implement a picoprojector? who would implement and inductive charger or a solar charger?

if not for being compelled to compete. given a weakened economy we're starting to step out of what motivation did producers have to excel?

you know how audio went from mono to stereo to 7.1? where at stereoscopic 3d now. but imagine not just single perspective 3d but fly-through omni-perspective 3d? wait that's television but i think you can imagine. it would be the basis for a holodeck.

okay, i lost my point and am rambling now. sorry.

I guess that explains why they have been so reluctant to stock windows phone 7 devices. I looked at my local Verizon store when I got my last phone and I couldn't find one.

I find it ironic that they don't want the same interface on Android, seeming as 90% of feature (dumb) phones all feature nearly identical UIs... Not to mention I don't hear people complaining about their desktop computers and iPhones not having enough variance.

Thank goodness! They really just need to put out three or four phones a year, such as the keyboardless version, the keyboard version, the AndroidBerry version, and maybe the big girly TV screen version.
