Motorola patent app turns up showing 3D image rendering flip phone

3D is huge right now and will continue to be one of the new technologies that drive people to upgrade computers and TVs over the next year. 3D will also be coming to more than just the living room or PC with several other devices getting 3D too.

Mobile phones will be one of the categories where 3D lands. A patent application has turned up that was filed by Motorola showing a 3D image displaying flip phone. The cool application outlines a phone that appears to have a screen on top that is translucent.

When the handset is open, the inner screen shows a 2D image, but when you close the clamshell, the two displays work in conjunction to give you a 3D rendering of the image. That is a very slick feature and would make for an interesting handset.
