"Or forever learn how to stop using the QWERTY
keyboards because they are so, so aesthetically displeasing it makes me
have a mental breakdown."

They could make it more good looking and even
- more useful (I have to push the keys extremely hard on qwerty sliders to notice my input. On my Razer keyboard I have to push the keys with 55g, on qwerty sliders it's like 200g or more... it slows me down and uncomfortable)
- more slick (Motorola Razr Maxx proved that one can put a 3300 mAh battery to a phone than 8.99 mm thin. The largest battery ever in a smartphone, including Galaxy Note. Similarly, one could build a perfect, slim, qwerty slider with easy keys and large battery, but no one cares to build. But one will do eventually and maybe it'll be a massive success (if the marketing is right, and won't come from a start-up without money, and the phone will be practical as hell))
So I just stick with touch-only phones for now. (I did not try Droid 4 yet, but did try N900, Desire Z, Xperia Mini Pro, Xpreia Pro, and all have a not very good keyboard compared to a decent laptop keyboard)

"Or forever learn how to stop using the QWERTY keyboards because they are so, so aesthetically displeasing it makes me have a mental breakdown". I know this comment was a bit tongue-in-cheek, but to me it exemplifies the problem in the design of electronics today. People care more about slick looks than productivity, usefulness, or performance.(In college I worked at Circuit City. It KILLED me that people bought a stereo system based on which one looked "cooler". No care about sound quality.) A keyboard is "aesthetically displeasing"?!? I could care less what my phone looks like. I don't sit there looking at it all day. I use it. So I care how useful it is and how well it performs. I can be far more productive when I don't lose 1/2 to 3/4 of the screen to a virtual keyboard. So to me, that sentence should be "people need to realize the benefit of a physical keyboard so the manufacturers offer more smartphones with physical keyboards. Or we can just leave it with the knowledge that some people (perhaps a minority) like (or love) physical keyboards, some dislike them, and some are indifferent.
