My first cellphone was a MicroTAC the smallest and lightest phone available at the time (1990 in Sweden). Price was like 3 iPhone 5, but I loved it. Wanted to try a Motorola once again and one of the biggest deciding factor in purchasing my Atrix was the fact that they had publicly committed to the ICS update.

My last motorola phone in life. I will not buy another again ever and even thou company is NOW owned by google I doubt there is any good in it. Company is in mess and google don’t care about it. As long as they have got rights on thousands of patents, moto mobility is the past and will be renamed to google mobility service or something.

Atrix “the most powerful”? Shame of Motorola and Google… A sad and no elegant and bad decision. We, ignored users that bought a Motorola, will never buy a Motorola phone again.

I would think it is Google’s fault because Google fully owns Motorola. If Google can not even honor a 6 month commitment to updates, how in the world can other vendors provide 18 months. Likewise, even Google’s Nexus One was abandoned prior to 18 months.

Quick question. I got the Moto Atrix last week and in the about phone section it says “Android version 4.0.4″. Is that not ICS?

Basically Google said they weren’t going to play favorites and that Moto would have to compete on its own. They installed a new CEO and ran away screaming. The only sign of life I’ve seen from the new look Moto is that they’re trying to come up to unlock bootloaders for all.

Or, Google bought Motorola Mobility to strip them of their patents and are going let them rot. I can’t imagine that Google, with all its resources, couldn’t task a small team of engineers to pick up Motorola’s slack and upgrade these phones.

I’d imagine that when Google bought Mobility, they bought their assets AND liabilities. Not sure of the exact details, though. Regardless, if they wanted to keep their existing customers, it’s something they should have done.

This decision by Motorola is a very poor choice. It promotes poor consumer confidence in their brand. No company can do well in long run by making its current customers unhappy by going back on their word

Never buying a moto device again! They just lie to their customers and don’t give squad about customer satisfaction. They appointed someone to fix the update problem, the fix? just cancel all updates!

The biggest deciding factor in purchasing my Atrix was that they had publicly committed to the ICS update. I feel like I got conned by a bait and switch to get my money.

And to anyone that thinks “it’s just an old phone”, the Atrix was Motorola’s 2011 flagship which they can’t even be bothered to update to the 2011 version of Android.

Why is this a shock? Since when do Motorola phones get updated? This is part of the strategy some phones will never get updated to coerce customers to buy newer devices. This is why carriers push android devices.

How is this Google’s fault? I know they own Motorola Mobility now but that has nothing to do with the Atrix. Google is slowly but surely changing the way Moto works. They will be a good company again….someday……maybe.

Sounds like Google is not honoring their 18 month commitment. ICS came out about 6-7 months after the Atrix 4G and was quickly abandoned.

How did you get a 2 year commitment? It seems Google is not even getting 1 year.

Just another reason not to buy a Motorola phone. I’ve moved on past my Droid X, after I realized that Motorola phones are made to be great, but have absolutely 0 support behind them. This is where Motorola has fallen behind greatly, and half the reason I moved on to Samsung. I can’t be happier. Even HTC or ZTE or Pantech look to be better options in comparison, simply because they will atleast get updates.

Until Motorola decides to actually remedy that situation with their many phones, I feel they will have an ever on-going exodus of users to other manufacturers and platforms. Who wants a phone that isn’t even going to be supported for the time you’ll own it? Pretty pointless.
