Moto Z Hasselblad camera mod gets leaked again

It almost feels like Lenovo and Moto have gone silent just after launched the Moto Z Droid editions in the US last month, but, if this leak is any indication, they might be catapulted back into the spotlight next week. Lenovo did tease that it had a few more Moto Mods for the Moto Z coming at IFA 2016, and one of those might be this Camera module that is consistently being marked as coming from famed camera maker Hasselblad. If true, then we might have the makings of another smartphone and camera maker partnership that would pique the interests of mobile photographers everywhere.

First, the Mod itself. We've already seen what it looks like before and these there photos coming from different sources confirm it. Unlike LG's camera mod, which basically just adds physical controls to the smartphone, this Hasselblad mod for the Moto Z is believed to pretty much be a camera in its own right, but one that will need to be slapped on to a Moto Z to function.

We've come to believe that the mod itself brings a 10x optical zoom, Xenon flash, and, well, physical controls to the table, at the expense of some added heft and thickness. While we've seen smartphones that look like cameras before, or vice versa, (hello Samsung Galaxy Zoom) a setup such as this would have the advantage of not looking like a camera unless needed.

This isn't also the first partnership between a smartphone OEM and a camera maker we've seen. Huawei and Leica did a similar stint, although the "co-engineered" distinction has been debated ever since. It isn't yet known what the deal between Lenovo and Hasselblad has been, but so far all the Moto Mods have been fully made by their respective brands.

We will find out soon enough, as Lenovo is expected to reveal the Moto Mod, among others, at IFA 2016 next week.
