More details on the S-XGen - disappointing screen

Further news emerges from Seamless WiFi Inc's news spigot about their S-XGen compact PC, the curvy handheld with the trick fold-out keyboard that we discussed earlier this month.  Most importantly are the specs.

  • 520Mhx XScale processor
  • 128mb RAM
  • 20gb hard drive
  • WiFi (only b)
  • Bluetooth
  • Tri-band cellular (900/1800/1900 MHz)
  • Ethernet
  • SD/CF slots
  • Stereo speakers
  • 4.25" transflective display (470x270)
  • 8hr battery life
  • Windows Mobile OS
  • Oh dear oh dear, 470x270 resolution?  Seamless point out that this is 1/4 VGA, but UMPC users are currently spoilt with a range of decent displays peaking at the highly-squintable 800x600 4.5" display on Sony's tiny UX micro-PC.  They do say the spec is "subject to change" so let's keep our fingers crossed.

There's also a video available showing the fold-out keyboard in action – kudos for the flip-out stand, Seamless, something that a few UMPC designers have neglected.  Warning: the video starts immediately and has no transport controls.
