Further news emerges from Seamless WiFi Inc’s news spigot about their S-XGen compact PC, the curvy handheld with the trick fold-out keyboard that we discussed earlier this month. Most importantly are the specs.

- 520Mhx XScale processor
- 128mb RAM
- 20gb hard drive
- WiFi (only b)
- Bluetooth
- Tri-band cellular (900/1800/1900 MHz)
- Ethernet
- SD/CF slots
- Stereo speakers
- 4.25″ transflective display (470×270)
- 8hr battery life
- Windows Mobile OS
Oh dear oh dear, 470×270 resolution? Seamless point out that this is 1/4 VGA, but UMPC users are currently spoilt with a range of decent displays peaking at the highly-squintable 800×600 4.5″ display on Sony’s tiny UX micro-PC. They do say the spec is “subject to change” so let’s keep our fingers crossed.
There’s also a video available showing the fold-out keyboard in action - kudos for the flip-out stand, Seamless, something that a few UMPC designers have neglected. Warning: the video starts immediately and has no transport controls.

It’s bulky and won’t be able to use it “on the go” due to the design. What’s the point of having a mobile device if you have to lay it flat on a desk in order to use it?
Ah, apparently the keyboard is removeable - then you’d use it solely with the stylus. I think the biggest useability issue is going to be the screen resolution and, given that it’s running Windows Mobile rather than the Tablet PC OS, the need to syncronise it using ActiveSync (boo! hiss!) to whatever your main computer is.
Watch the short video. The keyboard folds back and turns the device into a tablet. It’’s still bulky but not a bad compromise if the screen resolution could go up to 800×600.
Ahhhh…I see said the blind man. Thanks!
How much in U$D and BPS £?
