Misfit Ray is a fitness wearable with a sleek, minimalist design

Wearables maker Misfit has just announced its first device since being acquired by Fossil just two months ago: the Misfit Ray. The fist thing you notice is that the Ray differs greatly from the sporty, coin-shaped design of Misfit's other wearable, the Shine. Instead, the new fitness tracker has a clean, simple look that could easily be mistaken for a simple bracelet. It's little more than a tube-shaped piece of aluminum attached to a flat band made of rubber or leather.

Misfit says it put careful consideration into the design, wanting to allow users who prefer to wear an actual watch to use the Ray as a complimentary accessory. The wearable can track the typical data like steps, calories burned, distance, swim laps, and sleep patterns.

The aluminum surface is touch-sensitive, with a tap activating the LED, which flashes in accordance to daily activity goals. The LED, along with a vibration motor on the inside, also work to convey smartphone notifications like incoming calls or messages, in addition to reminders to get up and move around.

Along with boasting of a six-month battery life, Misfit says the Ray is waterproof up to 50 meters. It comes in either rose gold or carbon black, with a choice of a rubber band for $99 or leather for $120. If neither of those suits your style, the Ray can be connected to any standard 8mm watch band, or even worn as a necklace.

The Ray is available for pre-order now on Misfit's website, and will start shipping this spring.
