Apps are what is needed to make your smartphone smart and unique.Im fond of app creating and find it really helpful to use site like Snappii where i can build apps in minutes.

Other than email, browser, pic gallery & messaging, I use very few other apps on my Android (which I hate), such as twitter, etc.

As long as WP has the few basics covered, the apps will be fine for most people.

The issue is quality of the few most common app needs, the rest is just filler for marketing.

The thing is, I wouldn’t be sure any incarnation of WP will bring some particular features that you want – since that is Android experience. That’s my point. :)

Although there are some quite active members of “hacking” community (wphacker to name one) that are working on many different things, there is only so much they can do.

I am a wp7 fan with an HTC titan. That said, the quality of apps is not there. Microsoft still lets a huge number of stupid apps, and content apps that are duplicated dozens of times. This will fix itself over time, but don’t trust the spin. Its more like 10000 quality apps.

Otoh, wp7 itself is really good. And with Nokia behind it, I expect it to grow at a very fast pace when wp8 hits. Wp7 is helping to grow awareness, which is the important thing.

MS is not just chasing Google to the pointless app high-score here, it’s just pumping out meaningless “news” to keep their product in the media.
Wake up ! this is a global corporation with it’s PR machine working overtime on a product nobody wants.

Windows Phone is actually failing.

The marketplace grew only because Microsoft was propping it up with huge amounts of cash. It’s not a natural ecosystem.

The other major factor is that the public has rejected Windows Phone. Look at the sales figures from when it was released in 2010 until now. It started off woefully, and it’s actually shrunk since then. Windows Phone is going downhill, and can’t compete with Android / iOS.

I believe both users and developers should give wp7 a chance. it truly has potential and eventually will gain market increase.i love both and android and ios but wp7 is a game changer it brings sumting fresh to the table,look at android and ios they are starting to look like the same damn os.
If wp7 gets developers support for apps,there will be no stopping it,especially with windows 8 coming out.

MS is right, it’s not about quantity, it’s about quality. The only problem for MS is app developers wanting quantity (market share – WP7 is at around 1.5-2.0%) before they develop for the platform. When Iooked at WP7 it was missing a lot of 3rd party apps (not games or utilities) in travel (airlines,hotels), sports (Home team apps for iOS and Android, and sport specific apps (NHL, NFL and MLB), etc. It’s hard to believe WP7 fans are celebrating the Audible app finally available after 18 mos. You are almost guaranteed that if an app is produced it will eventually be available on iOS and Android – not so for WP7.
