I am no fan boy of any sort, neither do I have an absolute prefernce for any particular mobile OS. Having read loads of reviews, comments and "trolls" there's one thing I've to realize (and yes fan boys will be angry when I say this). Companies of the magnitude of MS,Apple and Google in the long run, only are interested in the "bottome line".Tech giants like MS take risk and cut deals for their bottom-line, and by extension their shadholders.

Let it be known, the $200 million marketing blitz that MS/Nokia are undertaking will pay dividinds to both companies. No amount of iFan, or Robot hate on the blogs or poor reviews can put a stop to what's in motion. This is tech-economics in motion (no pun on RIM). The response of the market to WP7 has provoked predictions as to the failiure of the OS and companies involved to a great degree of inaccuracy. How can bloggers cast aspirations on a formula which is yet to be proven ? It is a matter of "because iOS/Android has sold x amount of units, WP7 wont sell any ?" That point of view is doomed to reap the whirlwind. The thread of most reviews of Windows phone units has been for the most part heavily biased. I am yet to see an honest, unbiased review of a WP7 phone. Maybe there are a few out there, guess I'd have to do some more searching.

When a company who weilds more than 80% of software on PC's,Servers, Mainframes and laptops move into the mobile communications field, it is enough to make one stand up and take notice. If the OS of the average PC is anything to go by, we have not yet seen the half of what will happen. Cheers !

this could happen only if Nokia is in financial trouble because Windows smart Phones continue to not sell well Microsoft Windows Metro smart phones are less than 2 years Old. it takes 2 to 3 years for a smart phone eco system to get mature. please remember Android smart phones looked like duds when they first started. Microsoft is a Major company with the brains and bucks to make a good smart
phone. By September 2012 Microsoft smart phones will have dual core,. Hi def screens, NFC and ect so they will tech wise be as good as the I phone and the Android smart phones and will have over 50000 Aps including the main ones that count,. this all means Windows smart phones by September 2012 will be a damn good smart phone to Own and Microsoft has committed itself to make them great by improving the Product. If Nokia does sell it wont be dead it will continue it's profitable non smartphone lines and could sell could sell Wondows, Andriod or Meego smart phones by having an outside manufacturer make them for them as it did for some of the Nokia Lumia 800 smart phones

Nokia is in financial trouble, but even that is still far away from moto and SE situation. Why would they sell their most profitable business.
If they where to sell something they could start from their 15 billion euros, industry biggest patents portfolio by long way. Or the 8 billion Navteq, or Nokia Siemens Networks that's half of the Nokia's 130 000 workforce.
That comments makes no sense, neither does Eldars really.

I just can't see this happening. When Microsoft begins developing ecosystems and OSes to sell and license, they don't like showing favoritism to other manufacturers and alienate the others. Even the Nokia deal, which was rumored to allow Nokia to completely customize WP7 how they liked turned out to be false.

If this really does happen, I'll be really, really shocked.

Hmmm, I'm pretty sure Microsoft has its share of both failures and successes as far as imagination and vision. Their gaming platform is amazing. The kinect is an awesome device with a lot of potential. They offer a lot of services to Windows users. And Windows 7 is a great OS. Its easy to hate and grow a world of hate around a company that was/is on top.

Just look at Apple. Now that there is finally competition, everyone is jumping on the hate and jump ship bandwagon. Does Apple still make good products, sure, but they dominated certain markets and achieved an unwarranted amount of hate.

After all, is anyone forcing you to buy one product over another? Not really.

I think you hit the nail on the head there. Nokias in financial trouble. It gambled with Symbian, MeeGo and now Windows Phone and none have sold enough to support its assets. Now it is simply selling assets in order to regain its losses, and selling its phone division is the way to do this. What is Nokia's future? Who knows. They were a great company, but fell behind on the times due to insisting on deploying their own platforms (although they were good) and then adopting a platform which will either fail or will take many years to grow (but not fast enough to save Nokia).

Also, feature/dumb phone sales are decreasing and people from developing countries are moving up the chain. Nokia would be killing off any future growth by selling its smartphone assets (keeping in mind that Navteq's maps aren't as valuable as they used to be with and that patents only apply for a few years). I also don't think they empathise so much with shareholders that they wouldn't mind splitting its company up in parts, sell them and hand over the money to the shareholders. They would be dooming Nokia as a relevant company.

I don't trust Eldar Murtazin as a source. I don't see Microsoft taking over Nokia's smartphone division because Nokia then only has its mobile phone division and maps/patent assets to make money. Stock is up 4% but this rumour does not make sense to me. Nokia is a proud Finnish company. I don't know why they would sell their most prized assets (or the whole company for that matter) unless they had severe financial problems. Also, Microsoft would be competing against its partner OEMs. Plus, Microsoft already reaps the benefits from the Nokia partnership. Why buy? Finally, I haven't seen any evidence for this rumour but somehow lots of people are excited about it because (supposedly) Eldar Murtazin is a trustworthy source on anything Nokia.

Windows phone is a sales disaster.

The platform flopped. Manufacturers like Nokia and LG will want to escape the Windows Phone train wreck. The only way for Microsoft to keep someone manufacturing it's flopped phone platform is to buy Nokia and force it to make them

It is dangerous to compete with your customers and this strategy rarely succeeds in the long term. Samsung, HTC, LG ... are all customers that buy Windows Phone OS. Microsoft buying Nokia would make them competitors and customers at the same time. This does not bode well for developing a trusting vendor-customer relationship. I hope it isn't true.
