PSN outage was actually "only" 3 weeks. Microsoft's record is not that much better, at a record 15 days (over Xmas and new year, an arguably more critical time), however in true Microsoft fashion, rather than coming clean, they spun it that it was becase Xbox was more popular than they had anticipated.

Of course you won't see too many reports of the 15 day outage, as very few sites are brave enough to report anything negative, for fear of upsetting their biggest advertising stream.

The sad fact it, now Microsoft have their foot in the door, they have insane amounts of money to ensure the press reports what they want it to report.

Interestingly, Kotaku must have also been pressured by Microsoft to erase that bit of history, as it's no longer on the Kotaku site, and you have to get it from Google web archive.

Coming from somebody that plays both the Xbox 360 and PS3, I'd rather pay for a service that is easy-to-use and available at all times (yes, we're looking at you, month-long-PSN-outage). In terms of games, I'd rather play a single-player title on the PS3, but Xbox has the best multiplayer. Plus, if you look at cross-platform titles, they are typically better on the Xbox.

No sure how you work that out, as according to Metacritic, out of all the consoles PS3 has come up with the best games by a long shot forthe last 3 years.

My 2006 purchase is still bang uptodate, supporting latest HDMI, latest blu-ray, latest 3D.

How many xboxes and xbox live fees you paid for in that time?

I like the things microsoft has added to xbox live, such as espn 3 and such, so if this doesn't cost me money I'm all for it. But I must say I'm sad that there aren't more great games in the pipeline for microsoft this year. Of course I'm looking forward to gears and maybe forza if they don't go crazy trying to implement kinect too much, but most of my gaming dollars this year will be spent on exclusives for my ps3, such as uncharted, resistance, infamous, etc. And with Mass Effect 3 (the game I want most, even more than uncharted) pushed til 2012, this lack of games for my 360 is becoming more apparent. I will still buy most multiplatform titles (arkham city, ghost recon, mw3 or battlefield, rage, etc.) for my 360 due to its superior online functionality and most multiplats performing better on the 360, and maybe that is what microsoft is counting on because their line up of exclusives is paltry this year.
