Microsoft Windows Embedded Compact 7 dev edition available

Computex 2010 is underway and yesterday Microsoft held its keynote speech and talked about the business opportunities for hardware makers using the Windows platform. Several of the interesting tablets that have been seen at the show are running on the Windows platform, a good example is the slick Asus EeePad EP101TC that packs the company's new Windows Embedded Compact 7.

The Windows version that the EeePad runs is Windows Embedded Compact 7. The compact OS will connect to corporate email, calendars, contacts, and to Windows 7 Device Stage devices for transferring media between PCs and other devices.

Microsoft has also announced that Windows Embedded Compact 7 CTP is available now for developers. The developer version of the OS can be downloaded right now with the full version set for release to manufacturing in Q4 2010.
