They develop by a committe (pardon my spelling) and that takes too long. I worked for a boss who worked at Microsoft and sometimes my whole day would go away in a meeting. To do any product development software/hardware, the only way to do it is a dictator model, whether one likes it or not.

microsoft has even sold more xbox 360′s than apple has sold macs.
apple’s only successful in hyping their products in such a way everybody thinks they invented it altough they’re the last to annouce certain products (like icloud). 
i’d laugh my ass off if someone hacked their cloud service like the psn was attacked recently.
