When windows 8 and the surface RT was launched in NYC, the store (in Times Square) was PACKED to the point where people who waited since 6PM still had to wait in line to get in. Best Buy stores can accommodate a lot more people so they’re probably doing this to avoid massive lines.

The 64GB surface pro usable space is pathetic. So pathetic that you can use the real number (23 GB) and not make up your 14 GB number and still be able to make your point quite nicely.

The only thing good about the Surface Pro devices is that it will drive down the price of higher end i7 laptops. Looking at bestbuy prices right now, a decent i7 quad core with 8gigs of RAM and 1tb drive is now in the $799 range.

This isn’t a Surface RT this is a x86 based Surface and with that comes worse battery life. MSFT said it is around half what the RT gets.

I’m the owner of a surface RT and the battery life is amazing, it is actually way better than the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 it replaced. I check emails, read books and browse internet several times per day and I can be a couple of days without needing to charge it (is basically the same battery life I’m seeing on my wife’s IPAD or my son’s nexus).

Oh man, I hope those “invited” guests realize their 64 gb
surface is actaully only 14 gb with the pre-installed software and a bloated OS. I wonder if M$FT is going to have paid actors in line, like they do with their branded stores @ events.
Why isnt M$FT having an event at one of their branded stores? This seems like another repeat of the tablets M$FT has been pushing for over a decade now. It still has the same pitfalls – terrible battery life, weight, noise, an overweight full OS, a non-mobile processor, and now you can expect to lose over half of your storage on the entry-level Surface. I think the definition of insanity applies to M$FT product development.

M$FT sees the writing on the wall as far as mobile being the future for computing. so write a lightweight mobile OS, and stop trying to shoehorn a touch-screen UI on desktop OS. With the exception of a small IT community and a few diehards no one wants to accept the trade offs this type of devices offers.

I’m really intrigued by the Surface Pro, but I’ll probably end up waiting for the 2nd generation and hope that battery life and price gets better. Honestly, it’s a great looking product but like most first gen devices, it’s got a few issues to work out.
