Microsoft to axe a few workers

The poor economy wasn't kind to many technology companies both large and small. Smaller firms often simply went out of business while even the largest of the tech giants was forced to cut workers and tighten belts.

Microsoft laid off workers last year to shore up finances. The Wall Street Journal reports that Microsoft is again ready to make some "small" job cuts. According to a WSJ source, the "small" cuts would be less than the 5,000 workers cut last year.

The cuts come at the start of a new fiscal year for the software giant. Whether or not the cuts are related to the killing off of the unsuccessful Kin phones is unknown, but that seems unlikely. Layoffs are expected to happen throughout the company.
