Your reasoning is weak, it “sucks” because its “odd”, to you.
It has a keyboard that you can attach, but by itself no it doesn’t have a physical keyboard. The backstand is there, but *its not* when you don’t want it. Only when you want/need it can you bring it out, extremely useful when you think about it.
I mean, I can make my desktop look like a supercomputer, doesn’t change the fact that its a desktop :/

So its basically one of those convertible touchscreen laptops that have been around for a decade, but more wiggly and really ghey looking?

Microsoft’s idea of a Product launch:
Show you a new product…
Don’t have product ready to ship.
Don’t have expected delivery date for when it might ship.
Dont know price.
Talk for 10 minutes about the kickstand.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Microsoft, I even own their stock, but they shot themselves in the foot once again with this one.

I am suprised that nobody has mentioned that they are probably going to get sued over their implementation of the Apple “Home” button.
Placing it on the long side of the screen is not likely enough to avoid the copywrite infringement.

Given the weakness of the Android tablet products (due mainly to software), there may be a way into the market here for MS.
Unfortunately, by the time it succeeds in the market, Nokia will be dead, along with the Lumia phone products.

I’ve long been frustrated by the lack of imagination by the Windows hardware manufacturers. I for one thinks that MS needed to build their own tablet to set the bar high enough so the other mfg’rs will start to actually “design” better looking products. I like the fact Vizio decided to enter the PC market. After watching the video on TheVerge.com to their design philosophy and approach, I couldn’t agree more that Dell, HP, etc. were stagnating the PC market in terms of design.

So, hopefully, the “Surface” will kick start a truly innovative PC/laptop/tablet design revolution.

I am waiting for customer reviews but have not been this interested since the first iPad in a tablet.
I use a horrid third party stylus on my iPad as I gave up finger painting when I was three. Also I bought a MacBook Air because of the lack of a decent keyboard for the iPad as typing more than a post on glass is horrible and leaves nasty grease stains. The design of the MS keyboard is so clean and neat that I would have thought that Apple might have listend to us and brought this to market but no we must do it their way. I know that MS has designed a stylus and that also interests me as a content creator or what we once called an Artist:) MS has also given a much needed slap to HP, DELL and others to shape up and like Nokia make something clean with good looks and great specs.I already like the Nokia with Mobile 7 and cannot wait for version 8. The Apple iOS is looking old and childish compared to Windows 8. I hate using Lion and dread Mountain Lion which is all about wasting time on Facebook.I’m also pleased that a fat, idiotic, monkey dancing CEO has pulled together such a smart team of software and hardware designers and created such a loud buzz.The Retina Macbook Pro has shown me a trend within Apple that has made me realize that the horrible Lion OSX is a sign of a company determined to suck my bank account dry. I have already switched my video render workstations to HP and now I have a real alternative to Apple for a tablet. And it looks good too. Time for us all to learn the Monkey Dance: whose laughing now? Certainly Apple’s Knighted designer is looking a little foolish for not offering a keyboard on his covers.

I’d much rather spend the cash on a nearly thin apple macbook pro that I know won’t over heat in my hands but carry all the same functionality as a full featured computer with a higher resolution screen. This new tablet is going to be compared to the macbook pro or macbook air rather than the ipad as the “thickness” is nearly comparable but I’m sure the prices will be higher particularly for the pro version. The true tests will be in the numbers, battery life, heat exposure, and peoples adaptability with typing on that keyboard attachment rather than on a keyboard on an apple macbook air or macbook pro. Thus far it just goes to show being first has it’s advantages.

The RT version will be priced comparable to the iPad line and the full Windows 8 pro version will be price comparable to an Ultrabook.

Differentiation, that’s why. There will be tablets for Win 8 that look like traditional tablets. Why would MS compete with their partners on that level as well?

Microsoft surface sucks… no offence… i love Microsoft products, but this one is a little odd…

Main reason – why the hell does it have a keyboard and a backstand..???? it makes it look like a laptop rather than a tablet.. :(
