Microsoft Surface SDK promised for PDC this month

Having been flaunting their Surface multitouch table around bars, hotels and TV studios, Microsoft are now promising to deliver the SDK at the upcoming Professional Developer Conference.  Set to take place at the end of October, the PDC will include a dedicated Surface developer session after which attendees will have access to the software developer kit.

Aside from developing solely for Surface, the session will have interest for would-be Windows 7 coders.  Microsoft have already confirmed that the upcoming OS will have multitouch support, and they're promising to demonstrate "how the Surface SDK aligns with the multi-touch developer roadmap for Windows 7 and WPF".

Functionality covered will include vision-based object recognition and core Surface controls like ScatterView.  We spent some hands-on time with Microsoft Surface back in June; you can see the two video demo sessions here and here.
