lol linux is uesd on the worlds top servers/supercomputers, and windows, on the worlds top workstations. Mac = on the worlds top video and picture editing workstations. lol their all good so can we just get along, lol ;)

PS: U dont need a mac to run mac os. SO the prices or hardware really dont really matter, since all three oses are compatible with most hardware.

I kinda stopped reading after XP better than windows 7 part. You clearly have not used anything other than linux long enough to comment. Xp was good for its time (just like bell-bottoms) but so far running Win 7 ultimate 64 bit I can say has been seamless. No crashes, no lost data, extremely fast load up times, no viruses. You can customize updates, get free antivirus software and malware and making sure its updated takes a few seconds. To run win 7 lets face it you need a better comp than the XP used to run on. Xp systems are simply outdated and no one in their right mind would use it unless they are doing small minor things like checking emails or as a word processor. As far as browsers go everyone with half a brain will either be using Google or Firefox. You know you can set and adjust updates right? You can also do that for power settings.

There seems to be a small misconception that Windows security is bad. Actually its extremely good despite the number of viruses targeting the OS. Its also does have the most viruses because… it is the most used os in the world. Is there a point to creating a virus to infiltrate a computer used by girls, their mothers and a few media companies who does not really deal with sensitive info?

When you use a 6 year old computer you do become a relic. so its not your fault really. If Linux makes you happy then good for you, but don’t comment on things you don’t have a clue about. Theres a reason why Microsoft has stopped supporting XP. When all the new comps coming out now a days runs a min of 4 GB ram you know its time for a change.

You’re a fool. Linux sucks. Who uses that for anything serious? And I dare you to try and find a 16gb, 3tera ssd computer anywhere in the works for 2400 bucks. The truth is neither is any better or worse. Plus, don’t criticize a system until you figure it out at least. If tout can’t work it you’re probably not a creditable source anyway.

There have been a few posts about Mac vs Windows computers. Honestly they both suck. Anyone with a brain would know that Linux is a far superior system. I own a fatback emac computer with osx on it. It sucks. I hate the interface. The apps are ok, but the interface sucks. If I could change the interface then maybe I would not be so harsh. The $2349 price tag is ridiculous! Maybe it would be ok if the laptop had 16GB of ram, a 3TB SSD Hard drive and two Intel Xeon processors.
Now on to windows….it sucks too. XP is pretty good especially when you turn off all the window effects and make it look more like windows 95. Vista…no comment :-(. Windows 7 is not as good as XP. I hate the new explorer. (Nautilus from Gnome is far more useful). It also takes forever to boot windows up, most of the time is spent logging into the damn thing. Then there is the automatic update crap. It updates and restarts your computer if you are not at the computer to stop it. So if you were doing anything important… too bad.
Ahh now for some good stuff. Linux is a breath of fresh air compared to the other two systems above. I am not forced to learn how the interface works. I have a choice I can select from many different window environments (kde, gnome, lxde, blackbox, openbox,xfce,etc). I just installed LUbuntu today (LXDE) and I must say I was very impressed. It booted up(power-on to desktop) in less than 10 seconds on a 6 year old computer….The LXDE windowing environment is super fast. The file-manager (PCManFM) loads instantly, no need for me to wait on it too load like on windows.

All in all if you enjoy for your computer to go slow, and you enjoy viruses, and you enjoy proprietary bloatware that comes with consumer pc’s, then by all means continue using windows.

If you enjoy overpriced hardware, or if you enjoy using a interface that forces you to accept things you may not like (minimize, exit, maximize buttons on right side) then go for Mac.

If you are still reading this then you need to try Linux.

i can see you wont have to clean registries and defrag but you should still have an anti-virus……mac viruses are on the rise with the latest major one being “mac defender” which is a rouge anti-virus (news article on it = http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Security/Fake-AV-Targets-Mac-OS-X-Through-Poisoned-Search-Links-644121/ )

and yea on the problems i get them everynow and then and i dont trust the windows diagnostic..feels better doing the research on the problem and asking people on tech forums to help out… and most of the time on internet connection a simple reboot fixes things which i guess means the network card isnt getting fully loaded

you know this is the reason why people dont switch to linux as their operating system…..people need help to change to other operating system sometimes and dont need a self-perclamed linux guru just telling them to do a google search on a problem…..if anything the only way someone is a linux guru is if they actually help people switch to it and help them when ever a problem arise even if that means doing a lot of research on the problem

id have to agree on not liking netbooks and laptops but the thing about apple hardware is that its mostly just a blacklist-whitelist set up were for the most part you can only have hardware with their signature in the firmware and ultimately its pretty much the same thing as what you buy retail……its sorta what HP does with their laptop wifi cards and such…..

also on the software it might be were windows software is better than mac software but it all depends on what you need it for

The difference is between having a computer that works and having a computer that needs software maintenance all the time. Grandma wants email and doesn’t want to degrad her drive, clean her registery update her virus definitions. Grandma don’t like no crapware and has no time to waste while the thing boots up or not.
My last major experiences with windows were: I inserted a dvd into my brand new laptop and windows media opened, played the dvd without sound. The one after that I needed to place a stock trade, couldn’t connect to the internet, I ran Windows diagnostic and it said I was fine, LIE!
Now I have a macbook with windows in vmfusion virtual machine if I ever need it. I haven’t needed it in many months.

I don’t like laptops and I like netbooks even less. But if im ever buying one, it would be an apple one, just to uninstall mac os.
Apple makes amazing hardware but will never be able to surpase wiindows with software. The same way, I would buy an iphone only if I could get rid of iOS.

Why does everyone have to bash one way or the other? Apple products are great products even if they don’t fitt some peoples bedgets. I don’t really use the old apple products I have simply because IOS nor MAC OS are compatable with any of my specialised astronomy software but windows and linux and android do. As for you get what you pay for… somewhat true I agree, although I have pc’s that are more than 10 years old and still run without problems other than being so outdated that they are only useful as a calculator now… Still Apple makes amazing products.

You get what you pay for. A BMW is more expensive than a bare-bones Kia, holds it’s resale value better, will last longer and doesn’t immediately need to have it’s factory stereo, alarm, starter, etc all replaced to make them truly useful features with any quality.

pre-installed window systems my be cheaper but that doesn’t mean it’s for everyone…..also the pre-installed linux ones would be cheaper if microsoft wasn’t making deals with OEMs for cheaper license then buying a license yourself….also macs may be more expensive but the hardware for the most part is closed which also means they can figure out the problems quicker…….also i need to say no matter how secure the operating system people should have an anti-virus, firewall, and try to stay off the top level account as much as possible.

also with me iv had bad problems with windows some problems i dont see why i would have like getting graphic corruption when i have aero disabled but i dont when its enabled….also most of the support iv gotten on computers like hp when i had to call in a problem it takes hours before i get even close to a fix then end up having to test something that isn’t even related to the problem and end up just needing a restore disk because of the MBR got corrupted because of some virus that got past the anti-virus and firewall.

but again as i said one operating system is not for everyone some people find linux easier, windows easier, mac easier, and other operating systems that are less known might be easier for others, so ultimately all this junk about which operating system is better ends up being completely useless and idiotic (which i know i take part in every now and then but meh were not perfect)

USB (apple didn’t invent this, but they were the first ones to get it to work)

Without apple, you’d all be sitting at CRT monitors staring at DOS prompts. Everything good about the machines you praise was copied from Apple. Remember vista? they couldn’t even get the copy right.

Yeah, I bought a mac for my 84 year old mom because I’m not going to be there to update virus software and troubleshoot when things go wrong. She’s had no problems. I am an experienced windows user and can’t say that about my experience over the same period. And don’t call people stupid. There are different things on the market for different people, and that’s fine. My mom’s mac was more expensive to begin with, and its five years old, and not a single problem. None. What if she’d taken your advice and bought a Vista machine five years ago?

Every PC I’ve ever owned is measurably worse from day one until it eventually dies from PC Aids. Ive had a MacBook which I got on sale for $799 two years ago and feels exactly like the first day I turned it on-tell me about a PC that has ever done that? Oh yeah, I liked it so much I decided to buy the MBP and sold the 2 year old MAC for $500 on eBay….don’t see many PCs for sale-weird.
