Microsoft announced two new webcams today and they’re pretty interesting, to say the least. The LifeCam VX-5500 and the LifeCam Show revive the older models and bring something new to the table.

The LifeCam VX-5500 has the same body as the model that came before it, but the video quality is very good and clear. There are 3D video effects that further add to this cam’s value, such as face tracking. This means you can have a live video chat with the fish eye filter on without having your image blur. Video messages are also now possible in conjunction with Vista Gadget, which requires a PC running Microsoft Windows Vista. There are three faceplates available in red, white or blue and there’s plenty of low-light capability for clear-looking images. The VX-5500 will be released on September 25 and will sell for $59.95.

The LifeCam Show, however, is smaller and costs more than the VX-5500. It features a 2-megapixel sensor for 800 x 600 video. Three attachment options are shipped with the device including a laptop clip, a sticker with a magnetized button to attach the camera to your laptop for a more permanent set up and a desktop stand. This webcam features the same software as the VX-5500, will be released in October, and sells for $99.95.
