As a Zune HD, and an ex- iPod Touch and iPhone owner, I can honestly say the Zune HD was a kickass piece of kit, and if it wasn’t for the fact nobody ever noticed it (HOW?!), it would have slaughtered everything else on the market. There’s more than a couple of times the superior product was left in the sidelines. The Zune HD was, tragically, one of the worst occasions.

Everyone who ever went hands on with my Zune HD appreciated just how awesome it was, and thank God I even got a few people to buy them. More than I can say when I was one of the first people I knew to have an iPhone 3GS or 2nd gen iPod Touch. Back in the day…

Haha you’re funny and obviously a ps head… what about the Sony
network going down for a MONTH and being glitched to bits constantly… Hacked
to hell… The yellow light on the PS3? Not to mention the amount of little
things that are wrong with it, Crap charge cables that are like a foot long,
they craped up a decent controller with triggers that don’t work, The dual
shock SHAM when it was released…
hmmm the PSP isn’t even on sale anymore here in Ireland, they have moved
it to the Sony Ericson xperia play which is not worth the 490 euro it’s on sale
for… Yea and the Nintendo DS is popular but just look at ANY sales review of
it and in the last year and a half since Smartphone’s have taken over you’ll
see the DS sales dropping thru the floor… Not to mention the 3DS isn’t even
up to a 10th of its expected sales…
Across Europe in game stores the Xbox section is near twice the size of the ps3
one, THAT says a lot… if game retailers think there’s more Xbox heads well
they are probably right…

And what about the playstation move… that is a half assed attempt that is so
crap it’s just funny, at least the Kinect is turning from gimmick to an actual
usable interface, not one you play with but one that enhances play, voice commands,
hand signals, face recognition… and people are converting them to use on pcs
and alike, why??? because its innovative and it works… at the very least it’s
the best system of its type out there… fact

Yes the Xbox has issues, Paying for Xbox live (tho its a lot better than psn)
the noise of the original (new one is silent) no blu-ray which is in truth a
big disadvantage…
The drives on an Xbox burn out and don’t read DVDs (I’ve burned thru 3 Xboxes,
all still work apart from the drive (which still means it’s useless))
Controllers don’t come with charge pack (tho they are cheaper than PS3 controllers
anyway)
The red ring of death, death to your Xbox tho because the hard drive comes out
your games and everything are still good…

As for the wii, yea it sold the most but it’s not in the same console group as
the Xbox or PS… so I wouldn’t count it as the winner… Go Nintendo I love em
and glad to see them doing well but not in the same class as the Xbox and PS
and everyone knows it…

If you’re going to compare and slag you actually have to study BOTH and or ALL
systems… and Opinion counts for NOTHING in this conversation… Its facts and
the direction each system goes and how it does it and why and the result of
that work you look at….

Typical arrogant Yankee dickweed who thinks it’s only what a product does in his country of 300million that counts than in the rest of the world where there’s 20 times more people.

Of the current generation consoles THE WII WON. It’s sold 87 million units compared to xbox 55 million. While the PS3 is at 52 million. You mention some US sales like gospel. Isn’t there also a recession in the US, high unemployment? Hardly surprising that the Cheapest console is selling best then is it? Not only that you neglected to mention the RED RING OF DEATH. A great number of xbox’s had to be replaced. The Kinect is a joke, people waving their arms & legs around like idiots. Motion control is not the future, it’s the reason Wii has waned because it’s reached market saturation. People had their fun, but novelty has worn off. The Kinect has just rehashed what the Wii already did.

Bogged down in mobile gaming? Are you a nutcase, mobile gaming has been very successful for Nintendo. The DS in all incarnations is the most successful device so far & previous Gameboy’s have been good to their bottom line. Why do yo think Sony’s been trying to get a piece of the action?

“Gaming business” you are aware people play games on computers AND games are actually made by other companies? In fact Microsoft brought one the best ever, Rare & look what’s happened to them since. King? That’s how a 13 year old talks who just like you would be bias & ill informed.

The funny thing is Microsoft announced a price cut the day this article was released, maybe the writer should have modified so they don’t look like a idiot who doesn’t research? Ermmm microsoft have toyed with the idea of making a portable gaming system a long time ago but it never released, plus they released Live on phones so they did move into the portable gaming area just using phones instead of making their own hardware.

Sorry but you’re statment is incorrect.

Microsoft was able to see that standalone portable gaming consoles would fail, you are correct there.
“Microsoft has stayed far away from portable gaming.” This is where you are incorrect.

Microsoft has just taken a different approach.
Smart phones are becoming much more powerfull and rising in popularity, Microsoft saw this and has taken advantage of the smart phone as a natural extension of the Xbox platform there for future proofing its place in the portable gaming marketplace.

Apparentlly you are not familiar with Windows Phone 7.

I think this article was made to incite some sort of fanboy war because there really is no relevance for it at this pointy in time. With that said m$ is hardly the king of gaming. If you narrow the criteria for king down to US console non-casual gaming king then yes maybe they do have that title.

The Kinect is not the greatest thing since sliced bread either. Six of my friends rushed out to get it and loved it for the first month or so now the kinects are good for collecting dust. I rushed out and got the Move and guess what… its adept and collecting dust also just like my Wii. Motion gaming is a gimmick that once you experience it the novelty wears off.

Guess what their failed attempt at the phone market is going to allow them to continue to not be “bogged down in the portable-gaming space.”

All though I don’t agree with Nintendo and Sony releasing another dedicated gaming system with how popular smartphones and tablets are now. At least in Sony’s defense they are making an effort on the Android with their PlayStation suite.

I am a gamer through and through I own every console as well as the mobile ones, Androids, iPads and PC’s. I have a vast experience in all types of gaming for the past 25 years. Personally all I would credit m$ king of is online console gaming since XBL is the only thing they innovated that is worth while.

The big attraction in advancing gaming these days is what attracts developers.

You make kickass games, and they will come.
But…you have to sell the game…so you go where the money is.

I don’t think there’s a lot of money in Wii, or Nintendo ds, or Psp, or even Ps3.

Sadly, it’s mostly in apps and Xbox.

I game on a PC. It’s better than Xbox or other consoles.
If you’re really into gaming then you know what I’m talking about.

Yea, it’s still Microsoft OS, but not a generic console. Hardcore gamers will spend more for a video card than a console costs.

Oh, and if anyone cares, I get a kick out of gaming on my iPad and iPod touch.
So, some gamers avoid the consoles and go their own route.

from a gaming perspective though, they really suck right now…. Gear is the first AAA game they have released in a year….

I can accept the conclusions of the article, albeit I do wonder if all of the statistics referred to here are based on global sales.

Xbox isn’t exceedingly powerful around Japan, for example. And previous-generation consoles from Nintendo and Sony still have quite long lives for gamers, who play games made years ago.

But if we throw Windows into the ring (and I see no reason why we shouldn’t) then Microsoft is absolutely the king of games, and a better comparison for the industry would probably be the studios developing the games instead.

I wonder where all of this good Kinect stuff people are talking about is coming from, because I’ve had one for 8 months and outside of collecting dust, the only thing it’s been good for is Child of Eden and using it on PC for motion capture. My 3 year old nephew asked to go to bed instead of playing Kinectimals.

Sad too because I love the concept, the hardware just isn’t there and no one is admitting it. Higher resolution camera and lower latency and it’d actually be worth the asking price. Maybe they shouldn’t have cheaped out on the original design.

What Microsoft needs to release is a gaming tablet with an 8″ screen, all the buttons of the Xbox 360 controller and the ability to play all Xbox Live games. Maybe they could just make an app for Windows 8 that emulates the games and have a third party create the actual portable.

I too see that the PS brand is gaining a lot of momentum despite the Move not being as successful as intended. It just needs more better software, since It can emulate both Kinect and Wii motions. Ultimately, with the Vita and the PS3 reaching maturity, Sony will reign coming next year, especially considering that the Vita/PS3 combination can counter Nintendo’s new gadget.

I bet when the Playstation Vita comes out you’re going to go nuts over how much of a revolution it is, and how it changes portable gaming and will finally bring it to the forefront. You’ll then say how Microsoft was shortsighted to not see the value in dedicated portable gaming early enough, and then you’ll say that Microsoft is in trouble since their gaming ecosystem doesn’t extend far enough. Then you’ll undoubtedly change your mind AGAIN and say that the Playstation will be king in the near future.

Please think before you write your articles instead of just writing what jumps into your mind and changing your points to suit the article..
