Android is slow and laggy, crashes all the time, and chews up cpu so the battery drains in a few hours. It’s the ‘New Windows Mobile’. Windows Phone on the other hand is as smooth as silk and never has lag and never crashes. So what’s with all the marketing?

Equal opportunity? You don’t say!?

I don’t recall the numerous articles and events regarding HTC, Samsung or anyone else making WP7 phones. Motorola, who has a patent portfolio probably 2/3 as strong as Nokia’s, didn’t receive any special treatment or incentives to make WP7 handsets.

Lots of PDA for Nokia, none for anyone else. Such is the face of “equal opportunity”, I suppose.

Google, in contrast, has (so far) denied that Motorola would receive any special consideration from them. They’ve pushed the ‘patent grab’ angle and reiterated that they are committed to the Android ecosystem as it stands.

I’m not saying that I believe Google, but they’re doing a much better job of promoting “equal opportunity” than Microsoft, in my eyes.

It does seem partially hypocritical. However the major point of interest is that they don’t own Nokia.

If they ever do, then the criticism would be entirely invalid. However they don’t.

It still is equal opportunity in the sense that any OEM could try to strike a deal with MS for special privileges. It just matters what they have to offer in return.

So he’s correct when he says that there is equal opportunity. But I doubt that Samsung or HTC would be willing to give as much as Nokia has in order to get that opportunity.
