Pros:
It's fast - bootup, shutdown, normal oporations much faster than 7
we live the age of technology and the current standard is touch screens so may as well adapt to it because it's the future for more and more things like it or hate it. Personally I don't care for the ribbon screen I stayed on the desktop 95% of the time unless I was searching for a file or navigating to the control pannel. As a Desktop OS like I said, it's fast and it's fairly pretty I don't think it really looks any better than 7 at this stage of development but the end product I'm sure will be much more polished.

Cons:
Well, it's a dev pre-view so bugs are to be expcted but it seems like the longer you run it the more it fails ;)
lot of work yet to be done on this before it will be replacing 7

Comparing to windows 7 some features are modified and made easy but the main drawback is the touchscreen which is the new feature for window users and will take time for practicing it.
I have been commissioned to write a book on the Windows 8 OS but the Developers Preview has proved to be just that - a tool for developers. Many of the features don't work - even many of the touchscreen features. My screen capture facility work work on the Metro interface and many of the touchscreen gestures are unpredictable. It is also not particularly stable so I am crossing my fingers for the beta version.

I have to agree that Win8 Developer Preview is faster than my Windows 7. IE works flawless till now handling all sorts of videos etc. This is the only OS where I use IE coz its fast and works without giving much problem. Hope Win8 also supports games without much problems.

I've been using the developer preview for months now, on a netbook and on a desktop. All-in-all, its basically Windows 7 with a few tweaks. There aren't too many crashes as @Paulmd suggests. I've been using it for daily work and it hasn't crashed any more than Windows 7 did (infrequently). The big differences are the redesigned start menu, which is the "Metro Interface" everyone keeps talking about. All the "Metro Interface" is is a larger start menu. Its a bit slower than using the old start menu, but you get used to it. Windows Explorer now has a nice ribbon interface, which I surprisingly found convenient and un-obtrusive. The redesigned task manager is nice as well. Startup and shutdown times seem a bit better in Win 8. Aside from some other minor changes, that's it. It runs the same as Windows 7.

I have used the dev preview. I found it very unstable as a guest os within virtualbox. Kept freezing. As was expected for the very early stage in dev.

Interface is .... different.... Major learning curve figuring out all the swipe movements. Do not like that metro apps can't be exited.
