Microsoft’s next peripheral announcement, the Blue Track mouse, has been unearthed in advance of the official unveiling.  Intended to launch on September 9th, the teaser campaign featured the slogan “Say goodbye to laser”, a reference to the fact that the Blue Track uses a blue LED and special lens rather than a standard optical mouse.

The combination of the wide-angle lens and the blue LED means that the Blue Track can be used on more surfaces than other mice can, including raw wood, granite and carpet.  The mouse has been spotted at the German Amazon.com store and at the YouGame online store.

Underneath the Blue Track is a USB wireless adapter, leading to the belief that the peripheral is more aimed at the mobile crowd (who, it could be argued, are more likely to encounter different work-surfaces).  No suggestion on price or availability, however.
