I went to the “Smoked by Windows Phone Challenge” in Houston Galleria, I was told to find directions to the closest 4* restaurant. Sales rep didn’t find directions he just found locations of closest restaurant, at the same time I found directions. When I showed it sales rep, he told me that I was trying to cheat and offered me redo, when I found closest restaurants faster then him he again told me again that I was cheating. I don’t understand how Microsoft wants to get back on the Market when they are clearly not follow rules. And how they want to compete with somebody who’s customer service trained way better then them.

I doubt it would lose to an iphone. The iphone has no quick access display of information on the home screen.

This is really a dumb argument when you think about it. Setup either device for a specific task and it will outperform the other that is not set up as such. However, with that said, the android would still win in an all out battle because it can be customized to certain tasks much more than the windows phone.

For example, I could use a galaxy nexus and make the competition:

Display the headings of ten emails in your email at once. All I have to do on an ICS device is display the full page gmail scrollable widget on my main home screen. I don’t even have to disable the lock screen because I will still win. The live tiles are not as effective as widgets because they are only capable of displaying live information in one way. Widgets shape and configuration are designed with their purpose in mind. The one that stands out to me is the score mobile widget for android. Not only does it display live information, I can switch between scores and leagues by tapping the widget without even opening the app.

It was a galaxy nexus so Ice Cream Sandwich. Oh, and if you think ICS is crap then you have obviously never used it. It is well regarded as the most capable mobile OS in the world. It can do everything the competition can, the same cannot be said in reverse.

Microsoft sponsored a contest. Winners should receive their prizes.

They have consumer laws against rigged contests and/or failure to award advertised prizes . Since the prize is only around $1000 it should be easy to handle in Small Claims Court.

If they had stacked the deck like they did in this case and I had still “smoked’em”, I’d sure be considering filing a legal complaint against the store.

Read the original post – the lock screen was disabled (apparently on ICS is by default, on previous versions no), and by chance he had two weather widgets on his screen. The store had set up the WP phone with two tiles (which also aren’t there by default) and it took them a little longer to unlock the screen.
My guess is that they were upset because even rigging the competition (adding the two widgets to their phone, and only telling Katta what was the challenge at the exact moment, so he couldn’t set up his phone) they were unlucky and found someone who by luck had two widgets on his main screen…

I had a similar experience with the Microsoft Store in Atlanta, GA.
After loosing twice in a row, the store started giving excuses. I have
filed a complained and will also file a law suite against Microsoft if
they do not followup.

It was a Samsung Galaxy Nexus so it was running ICS. The main reason he won is because he disabled the lock screen and had 2 weather widgets on his main screen. Thus all he had to do to win was boot up the phone. Thus I’m assuming the WP7 phone had it’s lock screen on and didn’t have weather widgets setup.

What Version of Android was Katta running ( Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honey Comb, IceCreamSandwich) the question is important because if Windows Phone lost to any of the above Crap, Microsoft needs to scrap the whole idea of a smartphone.

That is an absurd assumption. WP7 runs more smoothly at lower specs. The only reason the Galaxy Nexus won in this instance is because he disabled the lock screen.
