well yeah they have location ability ***if and when you want it on*** thanks to years of Microsoft getting burned by stupid stuff like this they apparently anticipated this and decide to give users the option of turning it on or off, as compared to other phones where you don't have the choice. Real easy just go to settings right off main menu and there's a slider for location right there.

From slashgear/pcmag:

"Like most other phones, the platform offers plenty of location-based apps, and those apps require user consent before they begin tracking. Windows Phones also offer the common feature of a "global switch" that lets the user disable all location services, and Microsoft says its "Find My Phone" service keeps only the phone's most recent location."

so where is the evidence of microsoft doing it? I can't see any links on this article talking about Microsoft.. I'm not saying I don't believe it, of course I do. But when you say "Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 devices are said to also store location data of its users." well, by whom is that said? Any more information would be nice.

I am still amazed that anyone is shocked that smartphones track location history and store it. I operated under this assumption the moment I got my phone. This is a "no-brainer" of an issue. Guess what? credit card companies also store information re: where you make purchases. Airlines track and store where you've flown. I mean c'mon people, DUH!

These are probably the same fools who erroneously believe that Facebook deletes information when a user "deletes" it (haha) from their user page, or thinks that Facebook ever deletes profiles.
