I love my Xbox 360, and I hope that I never have to turn it on one day to see the red ring of death. Sadly, that’s something that I think every 360 owner worries about from time to time.

One cause of this horrible death is by heat. Sometimes from the 360 just getting too hot. Sometimes other consoles just have it out for your Xbox. Either way, we know that it could use some additional cooling. From the looks of this 360, Microsoft has finally decided to add a second GPU cooler to the console.
Unfortunately, we don’t know if they are adding these to new units, or simply ones that were in need of repair. We’ll let you know when we find out more.
Microsoft Adding Additional Heatsinks To Fix Faulty Xbox 360s [via crunchgear]

Cooling would help a lot, but, when you send in your console to be repaired, the last 3 I sent in had bad DVD drives. Drives that would not open or close properly, or drives that would scratch your $60.00 games.
If Microsoft is going to test new hardware, cooling or what ever, atleast they should be upfront and tell us if we are getting the latest product, or just some old piece of crap they have refurbed and shipped off to us.
We, the ones who have had to have our xbox 360s repaired 1, 2, 3, 4 or more times should atleast get the LATEST AND GREATEST they have to offer when we send in our units to be repaired.

MICROSOFT TECH SUPPORT, NOR THE XBOX.COM WEBSITE HAVE VERIFIED THIS.
I am not discounting the above report, but Microsoft is NOT admintting to this.
I would actually be quite surprised if Microsoft did actually admit to doing this. To admit that they added extra cooling would be to admit there was a problem in the first place.
This way they make people happy without ever saying that they did anything wrong. Classic Microsoft.
The whole overheating/ring of death issue has led to my decision to invest in a playstation 3, rather than an xbox 360. Even though I prefer the range of games available for the xbox 360.
When I send in my 3rd Defective 360, I asked Microsoft to atlease send me a one of the New Black 360s for all my troubles.
They said it is not their policy to do so.
I asked, what can you do for me, since I have been intercoursed 3 times already by Microsoft. They said they can only do the same as they have been, ship me another refurbished unit.
They assigned some person to check on me, he phoned me at the appointed time, we talked, I asked him if he could compensate me for all my troubles with the 3 defective xbox 360s I have had.
He said it is not Microsoft policy.
I asked what exactly could he do for me, he said insure that I get a good, working xbox 360.
I told him thus far, Microsoft has failed to do so. That the failure rate of the Microsoft 360 is 100 percent. I told him I estimated that 100 percent of all microsoft xbox 360s fail due to hardware failure within the first 18 months of use.
He said 3 to 5 percent failure rate.
I told him I had 3 so far, and all three were defective.
He said it was Probably due to my not taking care of the unit.
I told him the units were only used a minimum of time, and the unit stays on a Computer Rack, not touched my any hands but my own. Well ventilated.
I again asked why I and many others are getting 100 percent failure rate on many units… he passed the buck and said we, the consumers are doing somethign wrong, misusing the systems… he would NOT take any responsibility.
I hung up, was a waste of time talkign to Microsoft.
