Mercedes Sprinter Worker van aims at working folks

Mercedes has announced a new model of its Sprinter van that is aimed directly at the working folks out there who want a Mercedes van for business use, but want that van on a budget. The new van is called the Sprinter Worker and is the simplest and most basically equipped version of the Van that Mercedes offers.

The Sprinter Worker starts at $32,495 and can be had in 2500 and heavy-duty 3500 versions. Mercedes is targeting buyers in the plumbing, electrician, general contractor, and HVAC markets. Basically, anyone wanting a lower-end Mercedes van with the quality and long service intervals that Mercedes is known for.

The service intervals on the Sprinter Worker are up to 20,000 miles. Mercedes says that the Sprinter Worker was designed with input from dealers and customers. The design goal for the van was safety, reliability, and service intervals all at a lower price point.

The standard engine in Sprinter vans is a 2.1L turbo-diesel with a 7-speed auto transmission. Mercedes didn't specify, presumably this is the engine in the base Sprinter Worker. Other Sprinter vans are offered with an 188hp 3.0L turbo-diesel engine as an upgrade. The new Sprinter Worker starts at about $4,500 less than the previous model.
