I've been with Apple for 14 years, but this is beginning to look like "Snake oil".
In Snow Leopard I had Notes and Todos in Mail. Within the body of a note I could add todos (and readily assign it to a calendar, give it a date, priority, etc), link files and URLS, make lists. In Mail's ToDo window I could also get a wide-screen view of the todos, and sort or search by various criteria. Granted, Mail tended to hork on sync, especially before SL - things would sometimes duplicate, for instance - but I could, and did, use it as a quickie form of project management. And in Snow Leopard iCal I could at least see the todos, select multiple ones and change calendars (for instance). I could sort them by different criteria, or manually. DId I mention that I could select a sentence in an email and turn it into a todo, with the email linked? In Lion, Notes lost the tasks. To-dos disappeared from Mail, leaving me either a narrow column on the side of iCal to manage them (or possibly Bento). In Lion I could no longer select text in a mail and turn it into a todo, and the colored flags have no date associated with them. (I can physically drag an email to a date on the calendar - that's it). In Lion I could no longer select multiple todos in iCal's Todo pane and change properties, so now if I need to move more than one todo from one calendar to another, I have to do it individually. Oddly, enough, this persists in Bento. I can only change calendars on one todo at a time. But at least I could still sort todos by priority, due date, etc. Now Mountain Lion comes with the new "Reminders" app. Apples' page trumpets, "see your reminders in the order they were created. Keep track of them by due date." It shows a screen that looks very much like the Reminders app on the iOs. Reminders on iOs does not show priorities, and does not allow any sorting - not by date, priority, title, or manually. You can click on a calendar and show those reminders that are due on that date only. You don't even have the ability to see all your reminders, on all your lists, let alone to sort them in any fashion. And no word if third party applications will be able to add "reminders" to your reminder list. (one of the selling points of the Mac Os used to be that third party applications could interact with iCal's todos.)This takes away functionality. It does not add functionality. My work flow was broken, quite severely, especially once iCloud came out. I've had to abandon anything that integrated with iCal for task management - in my case that was Curio - and go elsewhere. (Yes, I've tried Things, which kept losing data on me, and I am aware of the little 99-cent ToDo list app, which is one of the few that not only syncs with Reminders lists on my Mac, but on iCloud). Apple used to have something called integrity. I'm not sure about it anymore.

Not going to lie, I really miss my Snow Leo. Spaces seems crappy and the whole interface just seems like it is made to be used by children. Easy is good but not at the expense of functionality. I love you Apple but keep your OS for grown-ups. If I want to use an iPad, I will buy an iPad. Don't turn my powerhouse laptop into a casual use device when I want a monster.
Don't understand this OS, or Win 8 for that matter. They're trying to incorporate lots of smartphone/tablet features and so far I see nothing new for power users (I am currently using Avid Media Composer to edit films on my Mac). Lion is still new and you can guarantee there'll be 'Mountain Lion only' compatible software before long forcing us to upgrade. Don't like the way OSX is heading and Windows is no better!

After reading about how much trouble people have had with Lion I chose not to install it on my 27" iMac that I bought last May. I'm still concerned and would wait until those issues are cleared up before considering Mountain Lion. Another concern is that you can't go back if you don't like it. My iPhone 3GS got very slow with iOS4 and I wish I could go back to the previous iOS.
