Nah I’m pretty sure NI borrowed the concept(which is fine depending on licensing). They did it on a few of their much touted apps: Mail’d=k9, office suite=free version of quick office(90% sure), false digitizer= open sourced project(can’t be bothered to look it up), etc.

I don’t see how you can call it simplistic, but it’s not pretty. In terms of the layout and graphics it doesn’t look anywhere near consumer ready. And it’s not just bad graphics, I particularly hate how wasteful it seems to be of its screen real estate and how it seems content to flow off the screen on both axis.

But surely the current iOS icon grid (where “active content” is limited to badges with small numbers appearing on top of the icons – oh, and the date on the calendar icon) has to be the most simplistic tablet UI out there? The iOS UI is simple and elegant, but with just static icons and folders it’s starting too feel a little outdated with most of the rivals now supporting widgets and active content. I’m absolutely sure Apple will fix that very soon though.

The tablet UI of MeeGo has been demonstrated in the past. It hasn’t really changed much since then; therefore, the debate as to whether or not it is “finished” is more personal perspective. The demo does not in any way make MeeGo table UI look as though it is unusable (definitely much further along than Microsoft’s current tablet UI) nor does it speak in any way to what the phone UI is and how ready that is. So I hope MS fans will stop with the MeeGo bashing in an attempt to convince everyone that the MS-Nokia deal is a good thing.

Whether or not people find it overly simplistic is also a personal preference.

I personally think the columns are a nice way to arrange things especially for a device that should be simple to use.

It’s a year old and it’s still in alpha? Looks terrible, no wonder Nokia dumped that, Intel should to. If they want to push their CPUs they should focus on Android.
