McLaren plans special 12C variant to compete with Ferrari 458 Speciale

In the world of supercars, the names Ferrari and McLaren are both well known. Last year Ferrari rolled out a special version of its 458 called the 458 Speciale that boasted a record setting power density. McLaren has now announced that it is planning a special 12C variant to compete against that Ferrari.

The special 12C variant is in the works according to sources claiming to be familiar with McLaren's plans. The source claims that the special 12C will produce about 650hp using a modified version of the car's current 3.8L twin turbo V8. The standard engine produces 616hp.

The special McLaren is also tipped to get carbon-ceramic brakes and other performance modifications. Among the modifications expected is a bit of a makeover compared to the 12C. The car is expected to look quite different from McLaren's existing car.

The special vehicle is expected to resemble the P1. McLaren is expected to eclipse the performance of the Ferrari 458 Speciale. That car is capable of reaching 62mph in 3.0 seconds. The Ferrari also boasts a top speed of 202mph. The new special 12C that McLaren is working on isn't the first special edition of the car. The company unveiled the track only 12C GT Can-Am Edition last year (Pictured).
