McLaren MP4-12C gets even more powerful

McLaren has announced a host of upgrades to the MP4-12C that will make this supercar even more powerful. Top on the list of enhancements is a 25hp boost that takes the maximum output of the mid-mounted, 3.8-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine to 616hp. This increased power, however, doesn't affect engine efficiency. Fuel economy is rated at 24.2mpg.

Other performance upgrades include drivetrain enhancements that make the MP4-12C more rewarding to drive and a new Intake Sound Generator that controls the level of engine sound or aural drama inside the cabin. Work was also done on the 7-speed SSG transmission for faster, smoother, gear changes and crisper throttle response.

Aesthetics for the MP4-12C remain relatively the same, but the interior offers more customization and comfort options. The touch sensor door system is not replaced by a button operated door and an automatic headlight system now switches on the lights when it rains. There's also an improved audio system and a vehicle lift option that provides more ground clearance at speeds up to 37mph.

The new 2013 McLaren MP4-12C is set for production later this year and is priced at $239,400. Existing owner get a free upgrade starting in October.
